That owner is responsible for all those deaths whatever opinion anybody has, they walked away leaving a child with five dogs, that alone shows how irresponsible they are. As for my house full of Rotties I have had the breed for 20+ years and seen what happens when pack mentality takes over and dealt with it so I don't need educating thank you.
Ending the dogs lives was the only option in Manchester, once the dogs had got to that point, but the owner had the opportunity to avoid it a long time before it got that far. Nobody will ever know how many "near misses" there had been before this week and God knows how many similar situations occur every single day, some owners may as well have a loaded gun in their hands. How many more deaths will there be before somebody has the sense to clamp down on the time bombs all over the UK.
That folks is my opinion, you all have yours.

Nope I leave my dogs with nobody and that is sadly not the case with most so called owners, the folk who did this murdered a child and four dogs.

Licencing them and insuring them will help with who can have them. CRB check sort of thing like mad al said.

only the greedy breeders would be against it. We have 5 dogs, 4 of them bitches, all spayed/microchipped and the dog we have has been neutered. Been asked loads of times over the years to breed, but we wouldn't because we trust nobody with a life which at birth, is in our hands.

well I think it's about time breeders, legit or otherwise, of ALL breeds where held accountable for their actions instead of reaping the rewards and not giving a flying fcuk as to who or where their pups go. Make them pay and be more responsible as well as any prospective owners.
Hows that going to work.?.....your giving a pup to someone, its up to them to look after it and raise it correctly, hardly your fault if they turn it into some sort of killing machine.
just like a CRB check when you work with vulnerable folk, potential owners could be checked out for any breeder who is serious about the welfare of the pups they breed. This subject is thrashed out endlessly every time something like this happens. As it is now the whole world is full of dogs in rescues and the breeders still keep breeding and blaming the folk they have supplied with the dogs in the first place.

boils my piss to be honest, I can't say I'd like to be the one doing the interviewing because to them the person the other side of the desk will be just "Jo Public/jobseeker".......but could also have mental health issues that they will not have been told about.

They are my favourite breed, love them. The first one I had was when I had the farm and more like a sheep dog, very gentle and fantastic with children. All of mine have been brought up to take everything in their stride and chill. Totally the wrong breed for anybody not wanting to interact with though as they are seriously intelligent, as are most dogs if folk are prepared to eek it out of them the rewards are endless.
