  1. I am from that small part of the UK accross the pond, obviously in Northern Ireland firearms applications are different from the mainland (due to our unfortunate circumstances). In Northern Ireland we require a full Firearms certificate for not only rifles but also shotguns and air rifles I personally think that this is good thing as it does reduce the number of people who could potentially give the shooting fraternity a bad name, although the odd one still slips through the net, I'm sure you will all have shot with variations of these individuals.

In response to the original question have always found the police in Northern Ireland to be very good and helpful regarding any application or variation I have on my certificate.

  2. Have had the same problem near my chickens have found the only effective control is poison blocks which I put down on my own ground and in neighbours sheds who I always ask as its helping them always make sure the blocks are secured with a coat hanger or wire through them because the rats will simply take the blocks away and store them have fallen foul of this in the past cost me a fortune in blocks till I found their store You can then watch the blocks and see if they are being eaten. But by far the best bait in a live catch rat trap is a mouse which you can catch easily in the small live catch mouse traps i always have a rat in the trap when I bait it with a live mouse.

  3. Rabbit fleas will do you no harm, the rabbit meat is fine to eat. if you look at your dogs on a warm day if they have picked up rabbit fleas they tend to sit on the top of their ears, this is a good opportunity to take them off the dog and put them into a container and do someones car or kit bag who is getting on your tits. I have had great pleasure in the past doing peoples cars, the fleas will bite their ankles if dropped in the floorwell of a victims car generally my bosses car or office. kit bags are also very effective so look on the bright side of catching rabbits with fleas.

Ps caster maggots are also effective for a delayed reaction invasion of bluebottles.

  4. can anyone give me a bit of advice on how to set a live rat trap as ive tried but never seem to catch much what would be the best bait etc

By far the best bait to catch a rat is believe it or not a live mouse rodents are teritorial, if you have mice you dont have rats. I catch up live mice in very cheap live catch traps slip them into those rat traps that look like lobster pots and always get a rat or two the next morning never fails.

  5. Would be interested to known the break down of votes ie how many have DSC 1 and what they voted. i do a limitted amount of stalking usually by invitation and feel that my experience in other field sports equips me with the field craft and know how.
