  1. Our working cocker is now 12 weeks old and I am wondering if anyone has opinions on the best Bible for training her.

Tony Price - Gundog training Made Easy ?

We are going to use a local trainer but it's always nice to have some other reference books !

  2. I just baited it with peanut butter (no really) and put it on the squirrels run line.

Took about a week to get the first one and then the second followed shortly after.

They were nesting in my roof so it didnt take too much to work out where to place it.

They are tryuing to get into the feed bins now, so I am going to have a go at mounting it on the wall nearby to see if that will work.

  3. Great post Ossie, cheers. Tender stretch hanging we call it, in most parts of Australia north of Victoria and southern NSW's the weather is too warm during the day, even in winter, to be able to hang meat successfully without refrigeration, you guys have a truly remarkable climate over there that lends itself to being able to hang and cure game meat outside refrigeration. I have heard of pheasant being hung until it falls off the hook, I would love to eat some of this.

Thanks again for the post, any recipes by chance?

This will work in both the oven or slow cooker.

Take an oven prepared goose (greylag, canada), best if you have shot and prepared the bird yourself, and place on a house brick in cooker. Add 2 lemons to the birds cavity and 1/2 lb shallotts to the pan and cover with foil.

Leave on a medium heat for about 5 hours taking the foil off after 4 hours and remove some of the juices and put to one side.

After the last hour remove from the oven, throw away the goose and eat the brick with some of the reserved stock.

  4. we were watching Bravo Two Zero the other night. my darling wife who avoids foul language like a lesbian avoids bollocks, decided she liked the word and it doesn't count as a bad word because it's a British expression. it's cute because she giggles when she says it. i just have to laugh.

    Simple folk these Americans !

  5. I have a fenn trap that we used to get some squirrels last year. This year I got it out to set up for some rats around the chickens and one of the arms has fallen off (the thin wire one, not the flat one)

Anyone got any pictures or diagrams of how to put it back together again !!

  6. I have a terrier already but I have been very impressed by the working cockers on our shoot. I am just taking over some woods for rough shooting and would like to get another dog to bring on for this.

Does anyone have any strong feelings about sprockers? I like the size of the cocker more than springer and it would fit better in our house!!

    Thanks
