  1. Hi Everyone. Just wanted to say a BIG thanks to John and Keith for a great couple of days last week. Look forward to welcoming you both down to our neck of the woods come the autumn. Many thanks
  2. Hi. Not sure if this is the done thing so apologies if its not. We are going to be in Northumberland in Belsay from the 22nd to the 30th april. Does any one know of or can recommend where I could arrange a days guided pigeon shooting in the area. Im insured with the CA and will bring shotgun, cartridges etc but will not have space in the car with the kids and dog for hide & decoys etc. Happy to pay if someone can help and if it means missing the Royal wedding on the TV all the better. (I think it will be repeated). many thanks. Regards jeremy PS I will also bring the
  3. No I work for a living. But sometimes you have to make things as clear as possible, and try to use small words
  4. Dear Mr Angry of Sussex. Gosh there you go again with the name calling. Quite why you feel the need to criticize the wording of my post is a mystery. All I was trying to do was to clarify a position or opinion but it seems that you yet again have missed the point by a mile (country mile or otherwise). If you read my post again you will see that I clearly state the WE maintain our hedges, we do not employ people to do so for us, neither do we have staff, workers or minions. As the custodians of the land we own it is our responsibility to look after it and part of that involves dea
  5. Will be offering...... have not offered but have met one person and meeting another at the weekend. Sorry if I caused confusion. PS Have only just got your PM
  6. Wow....... Not sure we deserved that! As i stated more than once we recognize the limitations of shooting the rabbits and realise that with the overgrown land next door an alternative method was needed. The fact that the land owner is 78 and still shoots as often as possible should demonstrate our resolve to keep the numbers down. Seems from the response and pm's we have had in the last 24 hours you are thankfully in the minority of people who feel so hard done by. We are not taking advantage of people but have offered one person a reasonable piece of land to work which they did not ha
  7. The owner of the overgrown fields thought they were going to sell the land to developers so let it go. We keep our fields in good shape as we keep horses and the additional farmland is all arable. Not alot of interest so far apart from a couple of very critical PMs saying I was out of order to offer the land and was taking advantage? Not sure how or why. Did not think this would be that hard to sort out especially when you look in the back of some of the magazines and see day ticket vermin control offered? Not sure about "no permissions" why?
  8. The insurance is as much for your benefit as ours. We have our cover with the Country side alliance which covers us for hunting shooting and fishing and general equestrian. If you fall over your nets and hurt your self you need to be covered. We recently had a poacher on our land in Surrey who tried to claim against us for walking into an electric fence while steeling birds from the pens! Several of the fields in cornwall are in a pretty bad state with regard to the rabbit damage. We shoot maybe 15-20 rabbits a week but the numbers are still growing. The field to one side of 2 of the f
  9. Naturally if we get interest we will walk the person around to show the boundaries and where the problem is and to see if they are comfortable with the land we have and we are comfortable having them around. I assume there are alot less people who work ferrets than there are who shoot as we could get as many people as we want to come and shoot but there seem to be relatively few people who ferret (if thats the right word?). As a result we assume most west country ferreters have more than enough land to work and so we may struggle. Will wait and see.
  10. Sorry if the "warnings" are off putting. I always want to know as much about the land on which I shoot as possible so I thought I would mention the footpath. There are enough members of the public who will think we should leave the "little fluffy bunnies" alone and Im sure most members of the forum would agree that some tact is needed when dealing with a pest so as to get the job done while not giving the Antis more dirt to through. I shoot rabbits for a number of land owners in Surrey and do so because it gives me the opportunity to shoot when I want in Surrey when most people hav
  11. Hi. Not sure if this is the right place to post this so please dont shout if its not. We have some fields on the outskirts of Newquay in cornwall that are being hammered by rabbits. We can only shoot so many so need the services of an experienced ferret person to come over an clean them out. The fields are use by horses and are crossed by a footpath so tact will be needed if the public are watching. If a good job is done on our fields an introduction will be made to neighboring land owners. Please note that this will not be a come and go as you please permission for our land no
  12. Can anyone offer an opinion on barrel length. I am looking for a .17HMR and there seem to be a wide range of barrel lengths available. Anything from 16 to 23 inches. Now I have read lots about the relationship between length and performance but would appreciate the views of anyone on the subject. Obviously there are benefits to there being a shorter barrel but not at the expense of grouping. It will be used with a moderator so 23 + mod would turn out to be a bit of a handful. Any ideas? Many thanks jeremy
  13. mate i wouldnt bother it would cost more then the rifle. your better off just getting a hmr i think yes the ammo cost more but you have got more distance and more choice of rifles. plus the hmr is round about the same noise as a hmr anyway Many thanks for the reply. Only issue with the HMR is that the land is not passed for it or suitable for the HMR or WMR. Local police are happy for me to have a mach2 but have said no to anything bigger. Mach2 is better than nothing and dose give me loads of land to shoot on. regards jeremy
  14. I recently posted a question regarding a left handed .17mach2 and the dificulty of finding one. Another option I have is to purchase a .22RF and have it rebarrelled for .17Mach 2. Can anyone recomend a gunsmith in the South East who could do this? Also if you have or know of a left handed .22 which needs a new barrell let me know. Many thanks regards Jeremy
  15. Can any one offer some advice. I'm looking for a left handed mach 2 and am struggling to find anything. CZ make one but only available in the US. neither do remington. Can anyone offer a solution. Will need to be screw cut but will get it done after and re=proof if I must. Many thanks. jeremy
