  1. Scottish Lurcher,

I hunt here in New Zealand with four Lurchers and a Flat Coat Retriever. Am mainly hunting Possums for their fur but the dogs have caught some good pigs over the years and my dogs are not what you would call hard. My main dog was bred from a bitch bought over from the UK he is Greyhound/Whippet Greyhound-bedlington and have a Whippet Boarder Collie and two pups from those two dogs.

There has been some good pigs caught here with sheep dogs and shot in the bail, working dogs are smart and just work a pig like they would sheep. That's not going to work all the time of course especially where the pigs have been chased and exercised by other hunters LOL.

    Is that you Richard.??

  2. Let's not forget...this is America...have you seen the size of some of them..Has he shot a Texan tourist?

    Just a thought.

Looks genuine to me, as Hog has mud and straw on it.Fakes are usually too clean looking.

    In any case i agree.."FOOKIN ELL"!! :)

No one is saying it isn't a big pig, but its a f*****g domestic pig, thats as queer a hunt as you can get for christ sake.

  3. I'm not that keen on straight bailers myself, but from what i've seen over the years, the better ones give a pig some space once it is stopped, so that it is content to sit back and watch, rather than getting pressured into running again.

  4. Putting a green dog on a boar would most likely get your dog killed!!

I'm sure your saying that after years of pighunting experience with your own dogs. :hmm:

Kath, I've never had a young dog killed or hurt badly by a boar, hopefully the roll will continue.

  5. I think the dogs were having a bit of fun with their owners :laugh:

I thought it was a bit of a rude trick to pull on the dutchman when I first saw it, as it could have ripped him in a worse area, but I did just about piss myself laughing lol  , I think they made him carry it out afterwards lol. :clapper:

  6. is there anywhere you can hunt boar in this country? and if so where? id love to try my dog on a boar, i reckon he'd fair pretty well, he aint the biggest of beasts but like the saying goes it aint the dog in the fight its the fight in the dog, and my neighbours red nose pit bull fairy with an attitude found that lesson out the hard way!

if you value your dog at all dont try it.... ;)

Are you saying that pighunters don't value their dogs...or what?.

  7. We don't have to worry about roo's and emu's here in NZ lol

Getting them stock proof is normally just a matter of getting them used to them, and having zero tolerance for any foulplay.

Feral goats are a bit harder, but a "stern" talking to gets through to them eventually.

Some dogs learn fast, some a bit slower, and some don't stay in the team very long.

  8. I've only been injured once, and that was about 15 years ago.

A boar done a job on the side of my kneecap, but it was my fault for not paying attention.

I was pulling a young dog off the boars back leg, with the intention of teaching it how to clean hold, but the boar spun around and opened my leg up to the bone. Nothing a few stitches didn't fix up, but could have been worse if it had connected with an artery.

Bumps and bruises are common, but not worth a mention.
