Quality quick release picatinny mounts set up on any rifle with a picatanny rail and you will be fine - as already said above, keep a note of your X/Y settings for each gun you'll use the Photon on and make sure you secure in the same place each time etc and it will do the job for you...
I use my Photon on an LR and also on a WMR and just change the X/Y windage and elevation settings each time - I write down the settings on a small piece of paper, then take a photo and keep it in my phone...

Hi Mac. Welcome aboard mate
Cheers bud... Good to be here... Looking forward to some good stuff on the forum!!

And just a thought... I've got a Nikon Prostaff Rimfire BDC 4-12x40 new with receipt purchased about 2 months ago - I had it on my gun for about 2 weeks then took it off to put a Photon XT on it for night time bunny bashing, so if you're interested in that, let me know... I got it shipped in via Brownells to my local RFD, because the 3-9x40 model is easily available in the UK, but not so many 4-12x40 seem to be available!! You'll find plenty of reviews on them on the interweb!!

You could try a Hawke Sidewinder TAC 30mm Tube... I've got a 4.5-14x42 Side Focus, but you'll pick one up for around £180-£200 in the higher mags option too if you need more mag... Excellent illuminated reticle, and works great with a lamp... Also one of the good ones for putting an NV add-on onto it if you decide to go down that route!!

Or try one of the Nikko Sterling range of side focus scopes... Pretty good optics for the dosh and nice build quality... I don't have one myself, but a mate of mine has one and he swears by it!! I had a look through and I was really impressed with it - not sure which model it is, but it was around £150 and I think it's 4-16x50 with side focus...

Thought I'd add some more tuppenceworth to this much discussed topic:
My Photon is now pretty much 100% using a 0 MOA Picatinny rail and a dedicated Photon mount from Yukon.
I have a couple of observations however:
The Photon naturally sits quite high, and whilst this wouldn't normally be a problem, the adjustment range is quite limited @ 30 clicks on both X & Y axis, hence some folk run into problems when zeroing. There simply isn't enough adjustment to lower the scope if it's mounted too high.
Even using the dedicated mount, my vertical axis is way out at 24 clicks, which means it's almost at max adjustment. Not good IMO.
Secondly, you can adjust by loosening the four cap screws, but this would invalidate the warranty. It most certainly will work though.
Lastly, if you do have to adjust way out to around 30 clicks, the cross hairs don't self-centre again, and it's hellish to look at being so far offset
I personally don't like the idea of adjustable mounts on a CF as it's more to loosen off.
Otherwise I'm delighted with the Photon, which, coupled with an NM 800 IR IC is way more than I'll ever shoot at.
Key message is don't use a rail converter, it adds too much height for the Photon to cope with. And get the lowest mounts possible and it'll be fine.

Just to blow a hole in the theory if the Photon is mounted too high - I originally had mine mounted so close to the barrel, that I couldn't use the lens cover - It still had zero problems - crosshairs still had to come up an inch!! I then mounted it on a different rifle with 38mm centre of barrel to centre of scope lens - still the same!! I tried various mounts with differing heights, but the problem persisted!! I got round it by first shimming the back with tin foil from a pie tray, which worked perfectly (back mount only shimmed) and then tried a set of Hawke Shims from fleabay - they come in a pair - different sizes - one for the back mount and one for the front mount - again, this worked great! The Hawke shims give around 25 moa on elevation... The shims will fit in most other double pin mounts - not just hawke...
I then bought a set of Sportsmatch ATP72 Picatinny elevation adjustable mounts, which I now use!! Nothing wrong with the "Pie Foil" or Hawke shims, but I just wanted to do the job properly!!

how did you get on with your adjustable mounts on your photon? I had the same problem, but not for windage! The crosshair was an inch low of target, so I shimmed it up with a set of Hawke shims off fleabay - plenty of adjustment after that with X=+10 and Y=-12, so the Hawke shims worked nicely!! I did end up buying a set of ATP72 Picatinny adjustable mounts, but unlike the APT66 Dovetail mounts, the Picatinny only adjust for elevation... It wasn't a problem though... I only seemed to need the adjustment on the elevation anyway!! Now sitting at X=+6 and Y= -4!
Hawke shims are about £10 from fleabay and definitely a cheaper option than adjustable mounts, so might be worth considering as an option! Just be aware when you fit them - they are marked on the inside of the plastic shim with direction arrows and which one goes to the rear mount (thicker shim) and which one goes to the front mount (thinner shim)! They are said to add around 25 MOA of elevation to your scope adjustment!!
Cheers

The question has been asked a lot about warranty transfers for Photons... It's not registered to anyone, so I don't see any reason why the warranty wouldn't be transferable... I've read about a few people having second hand Photons and returning them to Thomas Jacks under warranty!! Any questions about the receipt shouldn't be an issue - it may have been purchased as a gift!! But there is nothing in the Instruction/User manual that came with mine that states the warranty does or does not only apply to the original purchaser!! Simply says "3 Year Warranty"... Which is an excellent time for a warranty!! Great NV's, but like anything, things can go wrong!! I would buy another one without thinking!! Love my 6.5x50 XT for bunny bashing on my LR or foxes with my WMR..

Hi...
Just new to the forum... I'm located in South Lanarkshire and been shooting for most of my life. I'm a member of a few other forums too. Currently shoot Daystate AirRanger .177, Browning T-Bolt .22LR and a Sako Quad Heavy Barrel Magnum (WMR).
Looking forward to joining in on the forum...
Cheers All...

i know it’s an older post, but for anyone else that may be interested in the same subject - I’ve got a Vortex 1000... seems to be accurate to about 850 yards and is a nice compact size... a well made, quality piece of kit and highly recommended! I’m sure they do other longer range models too!!
