One of my hutches has a 1inch mesh floor the other has a one inch mesh floor with a half inch mesh above it they where my fathers and he let the crap fall through and raked up underneath the hutches ,I didn't like them i thought the ferrets where walking funny across the mesh and put plywood on top of the mesh .But every couple of years i have to renew the mesh as the urine corrodes it

It must be extremely uncomfortable for the ferrets having to walk on a mesh floor every time they leave their sleeping quarters. How would you like your living room floored like a cattle grid?

You could always paint any plywood that is placed on the floor cage, that should help to stop it rotting and make it easier to clean, using a paint scraper removes the contents of the litter corner and a spray with Pet Virkon or similar completes the job.

I always thought bumblefoot was something caged british birds got, from not having different sized perches

It's a generic term for an infection to the feet caged animals due to the environment that they're in:

Bumblefoot

It says on there, that wire cages are ONLY a factor with guinea pigs, but I'm sure it just refers to where the skin of the feet has become broken & infected, on any animal. Bloody 'tinternet, it'll tell you one thing, and next time you look it will tell you the other!
