Why lurchers dont get judged correctly?

Recommended Posts

Why do judges at all the gamefairs and lurcher shows pick show dogs over working dogs,

so [bANNED TEXT] they may have scares but this shouldn't stop them being judged fairly :wallbash::wallbash:

never been to a show in my life, what does a showy lurcher look like?

:wallbash: Every show in Scotland is fixed i have been to most of them and nine times out of ten its known what dog is winning before it even starts and this is in no way sour grapes as i am not interested in scabby rosettes as my dogs are hunters and would rather have one bunnie than ten tickets but surely a show should be a level playing field to give everyone a fair crack?

frost , in reply to your post , i have judged many times over the country , and i can honestly say , that no matter who is holding the dog , if it is the best specimen on show , i will give it first , as to your comment that every show in scotland is fixed , let me tell you this , i had a judge picked for one of my shows , and was told , over the phone , who was going to win , yes it was the same person , from all the phone calls , so i phoned the judge and told him he was'nt judging anymore , this caused an enormous row , but what the f**k , i run a straight show , cant comment on others mind you

I'd like to agree with Denned.. that was a rather sweeping statement to say "all Scottish Shows are fixed" !!!! I was at four Scottish shows last year and was lucky enough to get three Reserve Championships, including Reserve Scottish Champion of Champions, and believe me, I am not one of the "faces" or "clique" in Scotland, and also my dog is first and foremost a working dog. Of course there are fixed shows, in England as well as Scotland, but to say all are fixed is nonsense !

Cheers.

Guest dog on
myself & a friend went along to a show on sunday. he hasn't been to a show in years, but used to do all the norfolk & suffolk shows in the 70's, and a few out of the area. he was appalled. no beer tent, no racing, the only dogs that looked like they'd been worked were ours (none of the rest had even a scratch on them), no fights, no bacon butty van, 4 quid to park, and NO SMOKING!!!! :censored:

GOOD OLD DAYS

:wallbash::wallbash: There might be some straight shows but not many for example at Hawick last year a well known bull cross which has won most of the shows up here in Scotland predominantly due to the fact of who his owner is and who his mates are won the supreme champion when the dog should only have been in the bull cross class but due to its owner ended up in the over 24 class and this happens at MOST shows up here and personally although rosettes dont interest me there are others who want a fair chance and they are not getting it

in reply to your comments , regarding the show at hawick , yes i agree with you , that the dog should have been in the bull x only , but as there was lots of confusion , between the lurcher steward , and the owner , he told him he could show , after winning the class , i confronted the owner , and told him that this would never happen again , as this was our first show , including bull x dogs , , but as for it being fixed , i can assure you it was'nt , judges are hard to come by , so it is obviuos that some judges will pick there own choice , but what are they to gain by picking something that other owners dont agree with , absolutly nothing ,

im not going to get into a heated disscussion with you , after all thats your point of view , as has been said i try to pick judges who will be fair , it's a very difficult thing to do , but we try our best.

show organisers like myself , have found out that it is near impossible to keep everyone who enters a dog or bitch happy , when it comes to a show , yes some judges are genuine and some are not , but organisers have to try and pick a judge , who knows what , he or she is doing , in relation as to how to judge a working dog , but please remember , all these judges , do an incredible job , ask yourself , this question , would you , be able to judge any better than the judge , or be able to take , some of trhe stick , for picking ( in your choice ) the wrong one as the winner , if you could then put your name forward for there next show.

spot on , my wee pal , spot on , unlike the majority of owners , some decent folk accept what the judges say, but the drunk , abusive lurcher owners ,"who think they know a good dog , but are looking through beer goggles " i wish they would'nt come , after all , we only go there to meet like minded people , with the same interests

I go to shows for the simulated coursing and to socialise. I think they're fun. I show my dogs for fun and thoroughly enjoy myself. I think they're f*****g brilliant and love to show them off! I've been asked more than once by judges if I work them and met with approval when I say I do. I've got a couple of red rosettes and my dogs have honourable battle scars which haven't been a problem at all. That's just my limited experience fo course but why take it so seriously anyway? It's a good way of killing time with your dogs til the season starts again :D
