Dead peregrine falcon in backyard

Hi,

Yesterday I noticed a large peregrine falcon sitting under a tree in my backyard in Illinois. It sat there for many hour. And today I found it lying dead there. What could be the cause of death? There was no indication of injuries or illness.

Also, is it safe to keep a couple of its feathers before I bury it?
