D-day 6th June 1944.

Theres a Sherman Tank in the car park at Slapton Sands that is now a memorial to the men that lost their lives in the practice for D day operation Tiger. The tank was recovered just off the beach where there is another memorial at the middle Slapton car park. This hole area was evacuated in the war and used as a practice for D day because it is similar to Normandy.

Stopped by today because it 6th of June. My uncle was shot as he stormed the beach that day he was lucky in the fact that he survived.

Those lads must be spinning in their graves at the state of what’s happened since .RIP the brave .

My thoughts exactly. we are being invaded by Eastern Europe, the middle east and North Africa by boat!

Hard to imagine what was going through them men's minds as the crossing of the channel was no smooth ride and to think most of them would have been ordinary working class men drafted into fighting this war against a fascist nutcase their bravery was not in vain as after the war the working class were rewarded with free health care decent council house building programme and the nationalisation of our heavy industries creating secure job's and pensions. It's just sad now that the country is no longer fit for heroes like those that paid the ultimate sacrifice in ww2.
