I'd say more that I take them for the mooch mate but imo although they can be useful for what you mean they can also be a hinderence as although they work close and don't open up they can stuff abit to much when you don't want them to..

So yeh I mainly use them for beating but I do take them with the runners sometimes but there not really needed imo, they can get stuff out of hedges but you then you can also run the risk of hares being put out to far in front if you get me same as on places were there ran alot n jumpy a spaniel quartering can get them up hundreds of yards away n spoil it depends were you are n what yout doing I suppose..
