I don't know what causes it but it's a fungal infection, he used to get it in Summer. If you keep up the treatment it should be almost unnoticeable in a week and that's from a very bad state that looks raw meat and like the dog should be pts. He had a very dense, short, white coat. I think we used the Malaseb twice a day until it the hotspot subsided. The hotspots would appear overnight.

My 1 lurcher bitch lost all the fur off her tail before it was a nightmare even altered her personality at 1st I just thought it was a moulting thing she was doing then I realised I was using creams and stuff nothing worked then I thought 1 day il bath her in this medicated shampoo I had found dunno what it was called any way I then decided to drop a few spots of this stuff that's used to treat small birds for mite now if I tell you now with in a week the tail near enough went from completely balled to near enough looking like a feather duster in I think nearly just over a week you'd never believe me but it did I couldn't believe it

I have a terrier real bad hair skin round the same place goes bald and I tried ivomec and that stinky stuff and steroid creams nothing worked but  what worked for me was salmon oil added to food  wee dogs coats shining  b and m 2 bottles for 10 or 15 quid have all the dogs on it now and notice a better coat on all of them
