Cattle dog

The main thing which had always previously put me off cattle dogs was that the vast majority of those imported into the U.K. were imported because they were 'pedigree' cattle dogs

I have an elderly lady friend who breeds show Russells, they have perfect conformation, coats. They are just little fluffy pets though, that's it. Even she says she would love to own my terriers but she couldn't handle them. The show cattle dogs here are mostly just that now, a pet in working dog clothes. Her dogs are bought by pet, show people and suit that, the only two pups of mine that went to pet homes were returned as were too full on. I shouldn't have let them go to these homes but we have only a very small number of people who work terriers in NSW.

Cheers. Hes a handsome dog thats more the sort of thing im after. Id like something that bites thats not a shepherd or bandog aswell

Got a whole litter of Lurcher types that bite. All steady, but you cant be heavy handed with 'em. They are Shepherd based. You've spoken to me about them.

Is the Cattle dog not a Shepherd type?

I seen a proper one on a farm in Staffordshire, it looked a mad thing and we saw it doing its best to kill a collie. The farmer was too scared to touch it so he went to find his remote for the electric collar it was wearing. Unfortunately when he found it and tried to use it to stop the fight the batteries has died. The farmer suggested we come away, which we did, and it was never talked about again.

Do many work livestock out there nowadays ? I did read that lot get used by the trades people for guarding tools and pickup truck .

Yes not always pure depends on the type of country and how wild the cattle are. those on small holdings dont like them to hard but in the mountains just the go for cattle that only see man every blue moon and dont want to leave their favourite spots.

That bloke wouldn't have been very useful when I had to part the mrs pig dogs, a Bull Mastiff and an English Mastiff/bull terrier fighting over a bitch. I managed to lasso the English cross who was killing the Bull Mastiff but it was like two dinosaurs fighting, lol.

During my pig dog ownership, I had two pure ACDs dog both males, I liked the second one better than the first but only just, hunting wise they didn't have any distance & were fine if the pig was under control but almost took a back seat, if the boar was dishing  some hurt of its own, so I don't really like them. I can think of many breeds I'd rather use than an ACD however that said all this means zip, nothing, many others have used this breed within their own breeding programs and been well pleased with results. I still don't like them .......so I will never have a good one ....the human mind is a minefield..... of bullshit ....

I had a pure one for sheep and cattle work.without doubt the best and most loyal dog I've ever had. Beyond tough , absolutely fearless and would have died for me in a heartbeat. She would guard the vehicle if I wasnt there but fine with anyone if I was there, adored the kids. Her father on the other hand was an absolute man stopper.

If they can chase and bite and bark at things every day and get it out their system they are a joy to have but just as a pet or to lay around a yard as a guard dog I wouldnt recommend one personally.
