They are just little fluffy pets though, that's it. Even she says she would love to own my terriers but she couldn't handle them. The show cattle dogs here are mostly just that now, a pet in working dog clothes.Her dogs are bought by pet, show people and suit that, the only two pups of mine that went to pet homes were returned as were too full on. jeemes 3,517 Posted January 8, 2023 Report Share Posted January 8, 2023 I seen a proper one on a farm in Staffordshire, it looked a mad thing and we saw it doing its best to kill a collie. The farmer was too scared to touch it so he went to find his remote for the electric collar it was wearing. Unfortunately when he found it and tried to use it to stop the fight the batteries has died. The farmer suggested we come away, which we did, and it was never talked about again. Quote Link to post

That bloke wouldn't have been very useful when I had to part the mrs pig dogs, a Bull Mastiff and an English Mastiff/bull terrier fighting over a bitch. I managed to lasso the English cross who was killing the Bull Mastiff but it was like two dinosaurs fighting, lol. 1 4 Quote Link to post
toolebox 1,388 Posted January 13, 2023 Report Share Posted January 13, 2023 (edited) During my pig dog ownership, I had two pure ACDs dog both males, I liked the second one better than the first but only just, hunting wise they didn't have any distance & were fine if the pig was under control but almost took a back seat, if the boar was dishing some hurt of its own, so I don't really like them. I can think of many breeds I'd rather use than an ACD however that said all this means zip, nothing, many others have used this breed within their own breeding programs and been well pleased with results. Beyond tough , absolutely fearless and would have died for me in a heartbeat. She would guard the vehicle if I wasnt there but fine with anyone if I was there, adored the kids. Her father on the other hand was an absolute man stopper. If they can chase and bite and bark at things every day and get it out their system they are a joy to have but just as a pet or to lay around a yard as a guard dog I wouldnt recommend one personally. 14 Quote Link to post

But have you lads seen the cur dogs that a lot of the American lads use for cattle work and also hunting. Particularly in places like Texas and Florida.
