No reason for the arches to fail

Thinking back to when I was in the game, we used Sadolin a lot. Used on all hardwood frames. Good finish and kept its colour. Don’t know if it’s still used. Jok.

Ogbrey. No what mate. Them arches almost can’t possibly collapse.  Jok.

Yup they won’t be cheap, got to watch them unsupported arches, fall down when windows come out. Oaks too expensive £1500 for a 1050mmx1050mm window

Being brutally honest. Have. Been in the game and for quite a few years. I dealt almost exclusively with a firm in Tamworth, THS standing for Tamworth Hardwood Specialists under the rule of one John Riley. He , quite rightly, realised that that the future was in UPVC. The moral of this is, move on. It will be a lot less expensive to have a bespoke UPVC frame made and fitted with virtually no maintenance. You only have to consider the weather which unfortunately expands and contracts the plastics which means a bit of adjustment. I fitted a 6 set of bifolders for a friend and for a little while he was phoning too regularly because of this.I supplied him with a hinge key and that  was that. Anyway, they look like the real thing. Hope that helps. Jok.

Would nt look good on a listed building   Or a nice new house you wanted to look a bit more elegant, but yes they do some quality upvc stuff nowadays .

Most glazers who do that kinda work are pricey as fcuk cos they usually work on listed buildings an stuff, rather than most who use pvc stuff. I know a guy who does exactly them jobs but he in Glasgow an costs a Fcuking fortune cos he fully booked doing all the old buildings, he was moaning to me a few years back about nobody wanting to follow on the trade

A old football mate makes all bespoke wood windows, doors etc.. but its mental money... I just dont think ill get away with PVC on this one

Its listed mate, I think i may have to stay with wood... plus I'm not sure if PVC really fits the look of the place...

If the lime mortars shit they will fall , if the pugs solid they won’t. Unsupported arches have been banned for years now

I'm not a brickie, so don't know, but thought the arches supported themselves once up.. I see what you mean about the mortar being weak though..

Yes they will support themselves if done right and the limes still solid which looks like yours are also yours are quite a good radius not a flat arch if you see what I mean. Arches for a long time have to have lintels ( arch forming metal supports) now.peoples used to build them over thier side gates .from a pier onto the house ,the frost gets the joints  they hang the gate on the pier and not the house and wonder why the miracle self supporting arch falls down.window fitters don’t help on a soft mortar arch , they get in a crowbar and start loading the arch , prizing it up making it worse
