Good fun manning a young bird specially the first few days.  Good fun when you see a novice that thinks its guna be a breeze ?. Bird flops back off the glove legs sprung back like a coiled spring ready for the hold on your free hand lol Then you've got the other end too that's just as worse at causing damage an pain lol. It's all about time you spend with the bird. The more time you put in the more benefits you'll reap. Soon as the bird does that flopping back move just gentle place the bird back on the glove. The bird won't take its eyes off you. After you've got the bird comfortable in just sitting there. Place the bird back in the flight on its D perch. Me id of picked the bird up at the weekend so then you've got the full morning to spend with the bird. Then get the bird out again you'll have to spend a little time putting him back on the hand at this time just sit there with a leg off a day old chick. At first he won't take his eyes off you not even for that leg lol. Then all off a sudden he'll get confident on sitting there an give the leg a look wanting to tuck in , But still in his mind thinking no f**k that. But just talk to him reassuring the bird he's fine. I used to elevate my arm up so that the bird would slip abit onto my arm off the glove at this time the birds head would be a little bit closer to my hand. The bird would be concentrating on me an it's footing too balancing . Then all of a sudden the bird would start to eat. The feeling once you've got the young bird eating is a good feeling. Back to housing the bird like you've been told don't let the bird fly free in the flight because you'll be back to square one trying to catch the bird. You'll get frustrated an the bird will pick up on that and get stressed too. Good luck ?

Good evening, Thanks so much for your knowledge, Moby is tethered, I picked him up from a falconer who breeds peregrine falcons, an export to Dubai, he put furniture on him(good job I asked) his daughter flys goshawks, I've had him 3wks he 20wks now, I'll do the Glove trick, thanks for the info bud, keep smiling onwards and upwards ?

Your welcome it's good fun manning a bird up getting that bond between bird an your self. There's a part of the training too called stimuli. This is a big part of training. It's about getting the birds confident around loud noises ie machinery. For instance if your going to do abit of work round a local tip or landfill site or maybe farm equipment , guns on the land. You don't want the bird spooking an flying off getting hit by traffic near by or any machinery. You can't beat that feeling once you've manned your own bird. I used to have my birds In living with me when a first got them. Just used to sit them on my hand an watch abit of TV. I'd be relaxed an the bird would get that vibe from me. That was the first part of the training just getting the bird to sit there comfortably knowing I'm not a threat.

Thanks for the info bud,Ive also got told, when he sits on the Glove, squeeze his toe abit, with a titbit there, he look down and he will guess that's what he has to do? I'm looking forward to when he will be Manned, how long should it take? I know every bird different, but roughly, that will indicate if I'm doing it correctly or wrong? Keep smiling onwards and upwards happy hunting!

I manned two young Harris hawks up a male an female both Was taking off the glove in a couple of days. I had the birds in the house me sat watching TV bird just sat on Glove like a said before just do what I said you won't go far wrong. Two weeks a was free flying the bird. Had abit of bad luck with the male bird got killed by my Jill ferret.

At the time I was out but the misses was in. Shes gone let the whippet bitch into garden. Bitch must of been pottering round garden heard ferret kits in the back of the cage.

Curiosity must of got the better of the bitch an sadly opened the cage. Well you know the rest jill got into the flight with the birds. Bit of bad luck for the bird on d perch the daft b*****d got it's Jesse's twisted up so was f****d.

A do think if them Jesse's wouldn't of been twisted it may of turned out different bird might of got upper hand then maybe not. Maybe if it was free flying an up on a perch looking down it may of hit the Jill with abit of force. A do know i had a tear in my eye for the bird the worked id put in. Proper broke me seeing the birds head all eaten up Jill proper went to town on it. You could see where she'd tried to pull it back to take to cage. The wife only noticed when she was talking to one of the family members an noticed Jill mooching round front of the house. Blood all round its mouth. The misses knew an Wasn't looking forward to me coming home. But shit happens that's when she got me the female bird..
