Looking at that mate ,they were a tad ugly wernt they. The dogs back in the day but now a bit naff .

Yeah, they are definitely of there time, the whole Ford thing still has a massive following, 3 or 4 years ago a lad I know sold a series 1 turbo for 36k and a 1995 escort cosworth for 80k and took early retirement in his mid 50’s, we used to do all sorts to them trying to get as much power out of them as we could and thought they were fast, even the cosworth is sh*t compared to what my missus has been driving for the last few years, these will be the next collectors car

First motor was a 1. 3 poplar plus , after two seasons with the dogs , made it into a two seater , lamping out the window on farm tracks with the fox caller blaring between runs is one of my best lamping memories , blew the head gasket in way back from Glasgow and limped home .

After that a Polar white xr2 biscuit tin shaped one , what a motor , loved that car , great to look at , when it was clean it smelt amazing .

swapped that for a black xr2i , which I put into a hedge after two weeks but was thirsty , my mam said please get something sensible next so I bought a calibra 16v sri which was like knight rider 😂😂😂 but handled like a boat .
after that it was more dog friendly motors as my escort van was becoming too well known and couldn’t shine a light out of it .

first sub landed in 2003 and the rest as you say is history .

still sometimes scour auto trader looking at foresters and legacy’s , those dry early season days crawling over the stubbles never leave ya 😂😂😂

My misses is currently reliving her mid 00s travel agent days again cutting about in her fiesta zetec with trance nation blaring , great little motors

had a few fords did an anglia with an engine from a corsair 2000e engine pop rear axle wide spats fuel tank in the rear seat base, had to pick away in second as it just bounced on the spot when wellied in first, had a capri brand spanking, and on old corsair that i did the big ends in but lucky a local joiner brought his van to me with a loud tapping noise and someone advised him it was fecked and needed a new engine which he had bought and was in the back of the van, of course it would have been very rude to disagree with the local expert and tell him it was a tappit that had run loose so i did the honest sid thing and reset the tappits and swapped the  engine in to my ole corsair all at a very reasonable price. also had a cortina mk4 by the feck it could rust quicker than any motoor i had.

Got an idea I’ve mentioned this before. My friend had a ‘Urin Savage’ Ford capri which really was the ultimate puller. From memory, 3 ltr with loads of Jag bits like diff, prop etc. it was like sitting in an aircraft cockpit when he booted it. Oddly, it ended it’s life in a wall at Northampton General where luckily we got away with it. Jok.

One of the mates owns a tuned RS3, like a rocketship, still, despite their speed modern cars are that stable they don't feel all too scary.

I've driven a M2 Competition, again like lighting but planted to the floor and super stable.

Neither got the arse nipping like an old Civic-Type R and both would leave one for dust.

I used to love the old wedge shape Type-R only car I’ve ever driven that you could lift a back wheel off the ground going around a corner

my missus chopped the white S3 in a few weeks ago and wanted a new RS3 but it would be completely wasted on her, she never driven the S3 even in sport mode, so she went for a new A5 cabriolet edition 1, not a quick car but like driving an armchair 👍

Do ya not think theres more to the old jap stuff or fast fords, to me its about being young and bringing back the memories of a time long gone nowadays, we were not as wise and didnt have the responsibilities we do now, a rip in a jdm or fast ford is like a trip in the delorean dmc12, they take us back on time. Something these newer cars have not reached yet, but the youth of today might feel the same in 20 yrs

The older S3’s are starting to do good money now, obviously they need to be standard and low mileage, a lad I know has a really low mileage s3 mk1, I think its on a S plate, he works for Audi and they offered him 28k for it as a showroom car but he won’t sell it, he said if you have the money the ones to hang onto now are like the missus 67 plate blue one, really low mileage and with some nice extras like hers been the black edition
