Scottish hunting bill

There is quite a lot going on with this at committee stage at the moment with the RAINE committee urgently seeking clarification from Scottish Government  on numerous points especially  why Rabbits have been included in the bill , how this will affect game shooting and why two dogs when all evidence including governments own peer led review stated a pack was more effective and indeed desirable in welfare grounds . However the Minister for the Environment Mairi McAllan stated in a letter to the committee that a two dog limit was reasonable because an animal rights charity( Onekind ) says so !!! The Police want Rabbits added because it will remove the defence of I wasn’t hunting hares I was hunting rabbits which is utter nonsense as you can be equally prosecuted for hunting rabbits without permission. I have an official email from a Wildlife Crime Officer which states the don’t even use the hunting act ( protection of wild mammals Scotland  act 2004 ) to prosecute hare coursers but use the Wikdlife and countryside act instead which is bizarrely the same act they use to deal with rabbit poaching. The minutes are well worth a read if nothing else to see the level of ignorance and hypocrisy that exists with our politicians. Anyone reading this in Scotland should make an appointment to see their  MSP or at least write to them Oh and stop voting SNP . This year alone the are introducing the Hunting with dogs act, legislation to licence grouse shooting and now a review of firearms licensing . Death by a thousand cuts.

Yep , seen their name scattered all over that report , pathetic from the respective pro shooting bodies imho that they’ve had millions in membership fees but a charity with a few high street gaffs has reined them in .

Was only young as well , 19ish , my friend lived along from the hunt and we had some good crack up there with the dogs , just seemed to be a closed shop .

The Alliance is a waste of time if not complicit as all they bang on about is licensing which they have not a hope in hell of getting for mounted packs. I spoke to Jake Swindells head of the Alliance in Scotland at the Scottish Gamefair and he stated he didn’t see game shooting existing in the next 10 years. What a defeatist attitude . They’ll not be getting anymore of my money. Barry Wade from the national terrier federation and the Atholl and Bredalbane fox control society( hill pack) gave very good evidence but these big orgs like the Alliance BASC etc are just after your money

I was once told that by an official at the Scottish association of country sports tent ( who looked very like the nazi villain in raiders of the lost ark ) not long after the ban that they were hoping to use a socialist stance to recede the ban.

 As in it’s the right of every working man to go out with a dog  and catch a rabbit to eat.

This is exactly it. The only hope North of the Border now is that the Scottish field sports community come together to lobby their respective MSP’s like crazy. As it stands, alongside hound work with more than two dogs and bizarrely trail hunting, all lurcher work and rabbiting will be illegal. Whilst the Raine Committee have asked for clarification on the justification for adding rabbits to the ban, it’s was more to do with issues raised by BASC in the committee stage. Nobody defended lurcher work in the various sessions AND, sadly, the non-shooting fieldsports community have been generally very quiet, whereas the small minority of vociferous and motivated animal rights groups are very active in Holyrood, clearly working some of the SNP and Green politicians from behind.

This has, of course, all come about as a result of Sturgeons pact with (urban) Greens , so tradition and your rural heritage has been caught squarely in the crossfire of her independence obsession.

This should all have been nipped in the bud a long time ago. The shooting fraternity were well warned (fishermen next) that this was coming down the line. But no, too many I don't agree with fox hunting types abounded in the shooting ranks and (wrongly) though the antis would be appeased. Guess what?, it's here.

they won't stop until we are all eating lentils and the only thing you can do in the countryside is rambling and cycling....

I always said when I turned 50,I was selling up everything,house,motors,dogs and gear and going on the road to end my days,Mrs and myself would move from place to place picking up casual work for cash....I've 5 terriers and a runner,they will be my last,and it's a shame that none of them will be bred from...but I can see the writing on the wall,carried on within the law since the ban came in...but it's all lost its shine for me now...I don't get the same buzz as I did...can't even be f****d to go fishing these days if I'm honest

There is always big cat hunting mate, that old boy the metal detector we met in Wiltshire has had more sightings and done a podcast there is also some seriously good thermal footage coming up on there soon, I have the estate agent coming round Friday house is going up for sale and the horse box camper will be mine between that and the boat I will like yourself just be drifting around under the radar, little raise here and there I,ve had enough and am out

both him and his wife seemed genuine...he would have no reason to lie,I will keep my eyes out for the podcast
