Francie 6,362
There's a few lads on here I'd like to ask a question. What would be the best drink or food to give to a 12 year old boy before durning a football match. I'm not into these sugary sports drinks
jok 3,035
Think back. All we were allowed was water before the match and half an orange at half time. Oh, and banaids. Didn’t do us any harm. Jok

No idea to be honest but I used to eat them before rugby

jok 3,035
Thinking out loud. Genuinely we only had that half an orange at half time. Nowadays there are multiple mixed fruit drinks and indeed vegetable drinks supported by sporting coaches and nutritionists. Surely you don’t need to go down the sugar route. Neobliviscaris1776 1,998
Banana before a football match would be my choice, but at least 30mins before to allow for digestion. During exercise, oranges are good as there quickly digested. Simple hydration for children that age ie water or diluted juice along with water. They should be buzzing with energy at that age, no need for energy drinks in my opinion 2
socks 32,253
For a 12 year old nothing apart from making sure he has fluids (water)At that age he is not going to exert himself so physically that he needs extra nutrition or fluids.
Jonjon79 13,340
I agree, probably no more than a bottle of water at that age. Maybe pour in a good electrolyte sachet if he's tired or a bit under the weather. Something like an apple, orange or banana on the way there will help a little. I used to like a pint of milk with ice cubes in it after boxing my late teens/early 20s.
