The village tip

Recommended Posts

My shooting partner runs our village tip and from time to time he gets some very useful stuff.  Yesterday was such a day with a chap taking in a large rolled up tank netting parcel which will go onto our new perm for two permanent hides and another chap took in 6, 3 x 3'' powder coated aluminium tubes 48'' long with aluminium end caps so a new set of squirrel feeders will be produced from those.

Today I got a call from Chris to say he had some more stuff.  Well this one is different, he gets quite a few old springers in which he does a bit of reno on but this one is a bit odd to say the least, an SMK rifle with the barrel missing. The model is shown as an XS79CO2-88 so one would assume it is co2 powered BUT there is an air cylinder with a foster type fit fill point on the end of the cylinder. Looking on the web, all I can see is the co2 model and the stock on this is quite different as can be seen in the photos.  My pal would like to possibly get a barrel as a project but as yet I have not checked with any of the spares companies for availability.  I would be interested in any info you guys may have on this unusual gun.

Also there was a scope with the gun but no idea what make it is, any info again would be nice.

Hi Phil,

The scope is a Simmons White tail Classic - good scope

The rifle is an SMK XS79, it would have originally run off an 88 gram Co2 cartridge but, it looks like someone has put a lot of work into yours - the Foster valve will be for either HPA or bulk Co2 filling from something like an adapted fire extinguisher (I don't know much about this).

The stock isn't original either - it looks like some kind of AGS stock (customisers like these because they need minimal to no changing to fit).

I don't know what the hole is for behind the cocking bolt :hmm:

Edit - I mean the extra hole in the tube by the writing.

It shouldn't take much effort to get it up and running again.

Check the scope over, if it works as it should and the lenses are ok, I'd keep it.......... they're worth about £70 to £100 nowadays.

Good find

Second that on the scope I had one on my rimfire pretty good clear scopes the deer on the side is the give away, also the Philippines made ones are meant to be the better ones apparently, nice find by the way ?

Thank you guys, good to see you on here Jon, it's been a while mate.

The WTC hopefully will stay with me but the rifle will go back to my pal although I doubt he will do anything with it as he has just moved house a matter of days ago so it may well go to someone as a project or back in the tip, mind you I suspect he will want a few quid for it which is unlikely in my opinion.

Having been directed to a chinese gun forum, it is thought the the gun was converted from Co2 mini bottles to bulk fill by a chap called 'porkyyorky' but sadly he passed away last year so I think this gun is going back to the tip.

The WTC is on my P35 and I really like it, lovely glass.

It seems a shame to dispose of it mate.

What size is the scope? - I've got the 3.5-10x50 that Si gave me

I had the same spec as yours nice and clear as it gets to dusk, the 50 lens so much better also.

Yes I know Jon but it is not my thing or my pal's so we have a gun but no barrel (although I know it is available) and no idea if this is set to compressed air or Co2 so stabbing in the dark. I think my pal would be happy to give it away but that is his decision.

The WTC is 1.5 - 5x mag, perfect for my use although it may go at some stage.
