I think what wilf is saying and what your failing to grasp is that though benifit scroungers are an 'enemy' they are so totally inconsequential, like the railworkers.....yet we are conditioned to hate

Question, how does a railwayman, a working bloke like you, getting an extra few quid effect you exactly ? And if it makes you half an hour or and hour late helping him get an extra few quid, wasn

That would be me. All the way.

I don’t know the details of their reasons for striking, but I’d guess it’s a well below inflation pay offer, wrapped in changes in working conditions. Give with one hand, take with the other. I don’t buy the media propaganda that it’s greed, and I respect anyone with the balls to stand up for what they think they’re worth. Good luck to them I say.

If it’s train drivers ,just like to add they are on 40 g plus a year .Must be painful ?

If they’re working early/late and  weekends then I’d say they’re worth it. I wouldn’t be working Friday and Saturday nights till midnight for less than that, would you? And if the station workers are on a lot less, taking the brunt of the public’s frustration at the rubbish overpriced service, and dealing with all the pissheads on a weekend, then I’d give them £40k too.

I’d say that given 75 % of the population of working class is on ten grand less tops then maybe they are paid quite well .

Life is about choices mate ,I doubt there is any barbed wire on the job keeping them there .

Ive sort of lost touch with mainstream work places ,never worked in one ,never worked anywhere actually long term apart from gamekeeping but that was a labour of love .

Been self employed nearly all my life .Made my own choices on what I want to earn .

I d say most  Joe public won’t back any pay rise unless they are job or it will impact on rail prices ,again .

The answer to the cricise we all face at this point in time is not to hike pay ,that only inflates commodities .The answer lies with those hiking prices to profiteer in a time of uncertainty .

When politicians stop showering 3rd world animals in millions then we can have a look at should a white train driver (if such a thing still exists!) get an extra 50 quid a week

With respect spend a a weekend on the p-way Walt changing rails sleepers switches and crossings under a time constraint and you will think a lot differently, and I’m speaking from experience some new starters can’t even push a shovel into ballast it’s graft, don’t be fooled by what you hear in the media at the moment we were the good guys in the pandemic key workers now were the bad guys apparently because we want a fair pay rise and our T&Cs and jobs protected.
