Community Gardens ?

Recommended Posts

Anyone happen to have one? My uncle next door has a smaller garden we do every year kind of as a community thing.

It's a little bare this year due to the little drought where having but it's a little under 3/4 of an acre so kinda on the small side but we plant all kinds of stuff in there and basically as long as you give somthing to it. Can be as small as some seeds or helping set it up you have permission to take whatever you want. Of course you don't just take everything you can.

But yeah watermelons ( yeah go ahead and make the joke I'm waiting lol), like three different peas, okra , squash and a lot of other stuff I can't name off the top of my head.  Though the tomatoes and bell peppers and chilles always go around the smoke house... No clue why though ?

Not much but some. Think when have apples , oranges, pears, figs and I think these are satsumas.

My deal is to get rid of any pests but honestly other then the occasional rat and the birds not much to really do. Will say though the trees are full of these beautiful little birds nests now that all the hatchlings have fledged FB_IMG_1659703001972.jpg.1083d24fcda1588cca009dce47f51bba.jpgFB_IMG_1659703003976.jpg.a543bbc11d12080bd9941ab2a328b521.jpg

Anyone know a good way to preserve these ? Was thinking just a few coats of spray on clear coat would work ?

Anyway any of y'all do a community garden deal ? Would love to see some pictures of ya do

:icon_eek: What the hell sort of nest is that, Wolfie?! I mean, unless you have freakishly tiny little hands, that Has To Be a bird of At Least thrush size, surely?

Crazy construction though. Over here, it'd be things like crows that'd use those kind of twigs. Our thrushes ~ and most similar sized shit ~ tends to prefer grasses.

Anyway, regards preserving one? Just keep it under cover would be about the nest, mate. It's made of natural materials. That shit tends to last well, as is.

Just be aware it could harbour invertebrates.

Thinking it might be a blue jay nest. Not sure honestly though

Blue Jay! Damn, yeah! I was thinking about those Grackle's (Is it?) ye get out there. They sort of remind me of our Jackdaw. Similarish size, I'm thinking. Dunno. I'll have to get my Sibley down for a butchers.

But, yeah, Blue Jay ~ anything around there ~ sort of fits the bill, doesn't it? Heh! Got me thinking now! And I'm far too busy to be thinking!

Community Gardens sound like a nice idea - we don't really have them over here........ I imagine they'd work well until inevitably someone takes the piss and rinses it.

We do have allotments (I think Chartpolski has one?) - they're local council owned bits of land that are divided up into individual plots where people can grow their own fruits and vegetables on their own plot.

...... They seem to work well

This has the makings of a good topic, people will revert back to growing their own food again if the prices rise any further, this topic and the whats cooking would pair up good, see what people can thrn out at the table from seed

I think the people of great Britain are well past growing their own food, most couldn't even cook a meal from scratch.
