The first people I saw using a light to mark where they wanted to stop, or get dropped etc were Cumbrians, and they were VERY good at the job. I saw lamping done from the road before by the Bristol lads, but they tapped on the van roof etc.

Funny story, but hand on my heart this is true ! My old mate ( the one who u seen his dog run up Caithness). Was roadsiding hares in a mini van with his mush. My mate was in the van and his mate was the driver, anyway they stopped to run a few hares. Next a car is approaching so my mate knocks beam off and stays in the field and his mate drives off to come back for him. Anyway my mate sees the minivan pull up so he marches down field with dog and hares. Jumps fence opens back of minivan to see a copper driving it who says your knicked lol. So my mate gets busted and charged lol. After that they decided when ever the driver comes back to collect they will always put the interior light on ! Honestly that's a true story
