Farm near me relies totally on foreign labour. Workers live on site in employer owned caravans and work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week. Horrible way to live. I had a pal who was a cleaner in the NHS he was on £21k a year for doing f**k all apart from chatting nurses up and that was nearly 10 years ago. The NHS is a shambles I've spent most of my working life involved with it. There's more nurses on low wages in the above mentioned care than experienced ones I'll tell you that and that's coming from first hand experience from months on wards , private sector is far better paid ,that in my mind is a given and possibly rightly so but to say they're all well paid is nonsensical to me... Yes, the minimum wage has become the norm. Employers can't see beyond it. We used to have collective bargaining but that is seen as old fashioned now. 1 Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I remember when I was kid of 19 telling my boss I was jacking if he didn't put me on better jobs instead of all the crap jobs and I was fed up of being the lowest paid on the team. He replied " well f**k off then, you f****n cowboy". So I did. A couple of years later I asked my new boss for a rise because I was a vital member of the team ,prepared to work at short notice and prepared to work away. (I had learned tact.lol)He gave me an extra quid a week which was a lot in the early seventies. That, crudely, is supply and demand, and collective ( individual) bargaining in operation.
