That won't be fun...

A lot of places in the middle east that would be great to go to. The unstable nature of the region only adds to the adventure. Not much of a story '15 years in an Iraqi prison for taking a pile of rocks'.

There are people who are either ignorant, blasé or arrogant of what they can and can't do in the Middle East.

The days of adventurers, archaeologists, etc going on digs and bringing treasure out of these countries ended long ago, when we retreated from east of suez.

There is still a huge black market in antiquities, but the punishment can be draconian.

Theres the old sayings " when in Rome........" and "if you can't do the time.......".

In this case, he will probably not serve the full time, he most likely will be released after a while on medical or humanitarian grounds, after the Foreign Office apply a bit of pressure.

Yeh let's hope so, and get the old bloke out. But as you say, let it be a lesson to other people. When you go to the middle East, use your feckin brains, and   don't  break there rules, who wants to either be locked up like this bloke, or worse get killed ,  or have your feckin hand chopped off, ?

Feel for the fella and his family ,but it's been mentioned ,when you are in a foreign country with different laws ,different culture ,different standards and practices then you must respect them .......unless you come to a western European country ,then you can do what the fuk you like .
