I spent an inordinate amount of time in Thailand, because of my job.

Bangkok was a main hub for the airline I worked for, and myself and my family got , and still do get, free flights, free use of the airlines staff hotel in Nana Plaza, Bangkok, 50% discount on other airlines, hotels, car hire, etc, so we took full advantage ! I also had many one, two, three days layovers in Bangkok from other flights.

We first started going in the very early 80's, when Pattaya was still a R & R base for American troops, Beach road was tin shack bars, no big hotels, shopping malls or Ripleys !

My missus did her PADI open water in the Red Sea and her masters in Pattaya.

I liked it far more back then, but the last time I was there on a layover between NZ and Dubai, it had got very expensive, compared to what it was, a lot seedier, and commercialised.

I probably wouldn't go back now, but sure had some great times back then ?

Charts, I think we are basically the same, I appreciate everything you wrote, I understand, you know I do, but there are people who will have read that sentence and stuck right there thinking "I wonder if Charts was bummed?" ??
