Ended up getting the ford , the other 2 weren’t actually at the garage to look at . Fingers crossed it’s not too bad , got it for 9200 on a 16 with 37000 and got them to throw in some scotchguard treatment for the interior and coating for the outside , 3 years gap insurance that I’ll probably not need and 2 years warranty with breakdown cover so if it does go wrong it should be covered .

I did look at 2 capturs but one had mold all over the seat and the other looked like it had had a bump . Looked at a Dacia duster 4wd aswell and it didn’t look bad till I got in it , the gearbox sounded like a bag of spanners and because I’m tall I had to lower the seat right down and put it right back and that coupled with the angle of the pillar it created a massive blind spot

The Dusters are built on an X-Trail chassis and gear box. Problem is they are not built by Japs, but by Indians or Romanians.

The dusters arent built in an xtrail chassis as far as I know they use a Renault chassis . I know they where using the xtrail 4wd system but I thought they used a Renault gearbox to

The bloke at stoneacres garage said they used older technology and parts from both , don’t know which bits are from where but he said that because they just use their older technology they don’t spend money on r&d so they can sell them cheaper

It's rather difficult to actually say where Renault/Nissan/Dacia/etc stop and start these days, they all use the same parts wherever possible (even if they may have a different part number) and keep as much as possible common to all of them.

Nothing new in that, all car manufacturers do the same, several Fiat parts on a Ferrari!:thumbs:

Just the same, I'm not convinced any of the X-Trail model variants chassis (they don't actually have a chassis in the conventional sense anyway) was used for the Duster, (I could be wrong), the X-Trails are all bigger, the Duster does seem pretty good VFM but it is still a small car!

Anyway, somewhat wondering off topic!

This is one of the facts of modern life. I suppose it happened to a lesser extent with the Austin / Morris / Riley / Wolsley cars of old,but when I was looking for a SUV 4X4 I found that many were almost identical to other makes.  There is a lot less choice of models than you think.

Talking of Austin/Morris (BLMC/British Leyland, or whatever other re-incarnation they used), I seem to recall some of the Lotus used their door handles and TVR their rear light clusters, no doubt a lot more as well!

Didn't some Ford engines go in some of the Lotus to, Ford engines certainly found their way into some Noble cars, actually a lot, anyway now it's me who's going on a nostalgic meander!

A few years ago I went to a vintage car street race. One of the races involved 11 race prepared Porches piloted by Nigels and a duck egg blue Mk.1 Escort repmobile that absolutely trounced them. It was a Lotus engined jobby. And yes, the specialist sports car makers dipped into larger firms parts bins to save money. Even the Jag XJS had the same indicator stalks as an Allegro.
