I agree with Villaman Phil  in that the 457 is NOT the same rifles as its predecessors (455, 457).I would have a Tikka in a heartbeat if I did NOT have the 457.

My previous .22LR was an Anschutz 1416 DG, which was a good rifle, but in my opinion the 457 is easily as accurate as the Anschutz , but the mechanical function of the 457 is superior to that of the Anschutz. The 457 also has the feel of a very modern rifle.

Ah okay boys, I confess it was the 455 and 452 that I have experience with and they in my humble opinion are not as good as the Tikka bolt but I don't know know why you dislike the mags Mitch, I have not had the slightest issue with them, simple straightforward to fill, never jam, whats not to like.  I saw the Royale when it first came out and was going to buy one in walnut but it just didn't fit me very well, not sitting in my shoulder easily so didn't bother.

Totally agree with the comments regarding the Annie 1416, had one, no more accurate than my tikka and a clumpy bolt, will never have another.

Phil , most are complaining about these tikka mags , I don’t know if .22 are different but 17 HMR are poo

Not heard a thing Mitch, I have two and neither have given any problems, in fact my mate was after a left hooker a couple of weeks ago and was saying to the rfd how much better the mags were compared to the Browning which he totally agreed so don't think he has had any problem mags either.

The T1x is a good rifle. Some of the lads in one of the groups I am in love theirs.I am glad yours works as it should.I would have one if it were not for the 457.

You are correct about the 1416 bolt Phil, very stiff and difficult to work.Yes, would not have another 1416.

I believe the T1x is the rifle given out to the forestry commission staff for their pest control of which they ordered a large quantity and again this information was given to me by Forest Lodge Guns who I think did some of the distribution in our area. That was a while ago so I have had a fair number of gins since then so it is possible I may be mistaken but I don't think so.

I don’t know about the 1416,  but my 1417 bolt is as smooth as butter. It’s had some use mind.

Now there's a thing, my CZ rimfires are all 452, and other than playing with the trigger on the HMR and WMR (the .22LR is fine and original??) I'm more than happy with everything they do!!

I don't find they have any shortcomings for field work, the 453 wasn't the greatest upgrade, but I have little experience of the 455 or 457, can someone tell me what I'm missing?

Cheers!!

Your missing nothing mate. There is nothing wrong at all with the old brno action.

453, never knew they did one. What was the difference?

The 457 is cheaper to make. Has a shorter action, read scope mounts are cramped unless one fits a rail but the trigger is more adjustable but still benefits from a lighter spring.

Keep the 452's Deker,  nothing wrong with them at all.

453 is basically a 452 with a set trigger. As you say SD, nothing wrong with the 452 action. I don’t know much about the 457’s other than the price has gone up. Seen them in the £800 plus bracket now, so up there with sako’s and anschutz etc price wise.

That's crazy, they are just a cnc mass produced item! The world has gone mad!

Talking of autos, one I tried once and was impressed with was the Winchester m74! Most have no scope mounting but some later ones were grooved and some owners had them drilled and tapped for bases. They are super reliable and field strip in a second.

They are so good Britain bought them during the last great war for guerrilla warfare if invaded by Hitler!

Talking of auto’s again, how did you find the marlin SD? I see them for sale, various models, for not a lot of money.

Very reliable. Trigger wasn't outstanding. Took a lot of sear stoning and I had to drill and tap a grub screw into the trigger itself.

Once that was done it was good.

      Hello all.?
Just an update as it has been a while.I have been looking for a subsonic .22LR hollow point that shoots well from a cold clean bore and have recently started using RWS subs which do well, typically from the first shot..I have used a few different brands of subsonic H.P.s and they all group quite well after 5 or so fouling shots, but RWS like the cold clean bore, needless to say I am a happy and for me, decent shooting.?.I have used the RWS before in the old Annie 1416 DG and it was equally consistent in that rifle.
A couple of typical below all from a cold clean bore..My scope is a Hawke Vantage x2 -x7 32mm A.O. with illuminated reticle which is a great field scope but lacks magnification for target shooting so is sometimes difficult to deduce if a shot has been pulled, but I love the scope.
      Have a good weekend all.?

Hi all, just an update.I have had this rifle for over a year now and still really like it a lot. I have not modified it in any way and it is as out of the box.
It is an easy rifle to shoot well with a pretty good trigger (pulling at 2.6 lbs out of the box and very smooth), accurate, lightweight and utterly reliable.
I now have the benefit of hindsight and  purchasing this rifle was a good decision and I would do so again absolutely.
I use an inexpensive but very good Hawke Vantage x2-x7 32mm A.O. scope with an illuminated reticle. I sometimes use a SAK moderator on the gun, a very good mod.
      Have a good weekend.?.

If anyone’s interested, I decided to pattern and compare .22 and 9mm flobert shotshells. Using my 14 inch Anschütz, I shot a .22 Winchester superX #12 shot at a rat target at five yards to see if it would likely be effective at that range. To compare using my 24 inch Manu-Arm bolt action, I shot 9mm fiocchi #6 shot at the same range, and 9mm rws acorn brand #10 at the same range. I went on to extend the range of the 9mm flobert’s at ten, fifteen and twenty yards for comparison. Here’s the results.....
