I heard a knife maker mentioning about damaging the temper of a knife blade by using a grinder once the knife is finished when sharpening, how does it differ during the making process, do you put the edge on before the blades are put through the hardening process?

thats why i prefer to grind the bevells before heat treatement ,i put the edge on when the knife is finished with wet stone so it wouldnt get hot  ..

Do you ever use wood to make the scales, or is the synthetic stuff more suitable, and what are these blades Skinners?

i do use wood occasionally but g10 synthetic is more durable and easy to wipe clean   no maintinance , ,most of my blades go to hunters and deerstslkers  so easy to wipe blood off  ,
