Chances Of Survival?

Recommended Posts

Mother in law found these two little lads in her garden three days ago. No sign of the mother, and they are just curled up at the edge of her hedge. She is leaving water and food out for them, and they are eating it. Surely young hedgehogs would be well grown by now? These things are smaller than a tennis ball.

Have they any chance of survival?

She could try ringing a local hog rescue place for advice, maybe they'll take them in ?

Bollocks, pick them up ! Give them a load of worms, maggots etc, put a bit of spot on, on them and leave outside for an hour, then bring them in. Fatten them up and put them in a box with straw, in a quiet warm part of your house. Release them next spring into the garden ;)

If only I had the time lad. If I thought the kids (teenagers) would look after them, I'd take them in. Thing is, like everything else they've brought in, no doubt the poor b*****ds would end up swimming in their own piss and shit.

At the end of that I thought you were going to say 'wrap them in clay and cook them in the embers of a fire'

If you can weigh them they need to be over 300 grams I believe to survive hibernation mate, or give them to a local hog rescue place, I have kept them awake and feeding through the winter before but as carnivores they make quite a smelly house guest ??

Amen to That!!! I kept one in a bath, one time ~ don't ask. Fed it snails. Good god! Needed a fukking gas mask to go in there! ?

Shame, actually. I have exactly the right facilities for them, right here. No baths, thank christ! Big, escape proof cage though. In a powered out building. Wouldn't be feeding them fukking snails either!

My MIL did it year before last, had 4/5 of them and they stunk worse than ferrets.

300 they'll scrape through and 350 is comfortable apparently
