To be fair though they are actually very good at making stuff. They’re unreliable partners in projects but they have produced some good kit.

But when we’re talking nuclear subs, the UK/US are the worlds best. Though again the french are probably every bit as capable with the reactors.

Not a good week for the little man, first it was submarines to Australia  now it's fighter jets to Switzerland ?

He can’t honestly have believed they would go any other way. The Rafal is a great multi role fighter, but it’s outdated now, or at least soon will be. Everyone with any sort of sensible budget is going for the lightening or funding their own sovereign fifth/sixth gen projects.

UK cant afford the Astute class only four are delivered the last one Audaciuos took 11y to build, the next Anson were laid down 2011 and have still not been commissioned. The last two could be sold to Australia? Same with UKs two aircraft carriers two buildt but only supporting ships for one of them and only enough F35s a half carrier.

All of the astute class are either in commission or under construction.

Supporting ships? You mean RFA or escorts? There’s enough to support two independent CSGs in a low threat environment or one in a high threat. But no one runs a navy expecting all ships to be operational all of the time. Two carriers were ordered so we could have one available at all times.

F35 procurement hasn’t finished. I believe by 2024 we’ll be able to deploy an air wing of 24, not including those dedicated for other duties. And that still won’t be the end of the procurement.

Theres many things we can moan about. Those aren’t any of them.

Still the best equipped navy in Europe, and one of the top five in the world.

Cheers.

Comparisons are always complex but in terms of ability to project power the RN is second only to the USN.

But paying for that capability has come at the expense of mass. We lack hulls, redundancy and have let certain replacement programs slide too far.

There’s a fair argument to be had in favour of a less ambitious but hard hitting green water navy. Kim makes a fair point to this end, I just don’t agree with any of his examples.

Kim is a UK hating troll. He cannot get over the fact we left the EU and are prospering as an independent, sovereign country.

Cheers.
