It will look like a lurcher if it turns out like the one I had.

Another picture I found of the mad bugger.

Has anyone done this x pal thinking of putting whippet over his spaniel bitch wanting ferreting dog good nose with a bit of speed for bolts

Does it hunt well? Spaniels hunt like no other dog I’ve seen, so I imagine it would do well in a lurchers make up.

She did but she was impossible to live with. She was semi feral when I got her as an unsocialised pup which I don't think helped.

She retrieved 2 woodies at once one night , dropped my mate his one then brought me mine.

A Brittany is not really a spaniel though is it? More of a small HPR type. Leggier and finer boned than a Springer or cocker. Probably better prospect for 1st cross with a whippet. Possibly easier to live with than a hard hunting spaniel. That cross in the posts above is a stunner.

Can mind you having that gnipper, one best looking whippet crosses I ever saw, shame it never worked out, would have loved to saw pups out them. Did they rest of litters turn out good enough to breed? Surprised don’t hear more of the type, always think about a Brittany now tho when somebody mentions a spaniel cross, also got a pal who swears by the pure Brittany for the gun an hawks

I think it was only me tried to work one mate. The stuff I've seen on brittanys makes out they're hard work and from that bitch I had I'd agree with them.

I put a pic up years ago of a Springer x whippet/grey that someone else owned , it wasn't a bad looking mutt . I'll look see if I can find it again

Very interesting. I got visions of a lurcher quartering at 900 mph. As for the working with a gun I guess you need to stop it running in then being a lurcher you also want it to run in at times. I guess they soon figure out what you after and doing. I do like the idea.

thats true  regards a full on a spaniel , ive had few years beating , and there great gundogs, but bloody hell  you got to keep on top of them, my self i thought  say 1/4 lab x 3/4 lurcher would have been a good type lurcher, and easier dog to train , just thought ?

Same and the lad did a repeat mating and they were the same too. The bitch was a Brittany but not too different to a springer.

I would be more tempted to own a springer cross than a Brittany but it could have been down to her rearing causing her to be scatty. I used her for a bit of ferreting, lamping and retrieving birds at night. She was an absolute nightmare to live with though.

Shame she didn't get the right start in life ,I was gifted my old dog I got here at 18 Mt's and he's been a good worker but he's got faults he wouldn't have if I'd have had him from a pup,

He's 13 now and it's  been a challenge at times but I worked round his faults and as long as he was worked alone he was fine .

Seen two half bred LxG and both looked heavy and slow. Mabe a 1/4 bred would show the greyhound a bit more.
