Bin lorry fire

Recommended Posts

Just been talking to a neighbour who pilots refuse carts.  Apparently one of their lorries csught gire last week and the cause was traced to old shotgun cartridges that had beed slipped into the domestic waste!

Heat or pressure in the cargo area must've set them off.

The truck was at the start of its  round and had only done a couple streets before it caught fire so l guess anyone who holds or has held a SGC on that part of the round can expect a visit.?

Spent and Misfired Cartridge Disposal What sort of waste are spent shotgun cartridges? According to guidance from the Environment Agency (EA), spent...

Should have called the FLO to arrange collection for live ones.

I'm not sure any licensing offence has been committed as there's no safekeeping for shotgun shells. However the FEO might be able to use careless disposal of cartridges as a reason for denying a renewal as showing an overall disregard for safety by potentially allowing them to fall into the criminal hands. Not sure on that, so definately a question for a legal specialist if it ever came about, but common sense says it could be an outcome.

I seriously need to make a "confused American" reaction meme for stuff like this ??

? Garbage collection truck. We call em dustcarts, bin lorries   Biffa is the  name of a company that operates  some of them.

We have seperate bins for garden waste , common recyclable materials like glass and cardboard and another for general waste.

Shoving hazardous stuff like chemicals  ,outdated  medicines and old hand grenades in any of em tends to be frowned upon .?

Bit off topic but some might be interested, here goes. Old timers still call the lorries 'Dust Carts'. Here's why. In the old days they only collected the ash from fires. This was placed in the ash bin a.k.a. dust bin. This is why plastic dust bins have 'no hot ashes' on the lid. The dust carts would take the dust away and it would be sieved, graded and used. The larger lumps were called 'breeze' and this was mixed with cement to make Breeze blocks or Cinder blocks.

Been laying bricks 30 odd year and never twigged about the blocks??

I’ve always known them as dustbin men though… now they make blocks out of smashed glass and nails and any other shite they can find knocking about?
