Round Conibears for squirrels

Recommended Posts

Stumbled upon this on my other forms ADC sub forum and figured some of y'all would be interested. Don't know how common it is for grey's to get into people's house over there but figured it might be useful to someone.

DSC_0134.JPG.b6663eb968edb499daa1c4ac0eaec1c2.JPGSquirrels in roofs are really common over here. I personally prefer kania traps in lofts but also use fenns and body grips.the tube trap is the same principle as yours but is a built in one piece unit. Works great cable tied to the top of a fence panel or tree branch.DSC_0129.JPG.ed766ff359e750505d3e10caf5221da7.JPG

Back in the 1980's, we imported, a whole batch of round BodyGrippers,..at first I thought I had struck gold, and fancied that the Pest Control guys would be big buyers.?

However,..after extensive use 'in the field',..I came to the conclusion that they were not fast enough dispatchers to satisfy 'The Ministry'..

At that point in time, I was having more than enough trouble from the dopey feckers ? and I had pallet loads of BMI 110's and BMI 116's to shift..

The learned guys in the Min of Agriculture offices told me that these new traps needed to be tested by them, to prove that they were humane❗

This was ridiculous as the Conibears had been around a long old time and were well tested...

Their first question was always, "How do you set them"...FFS...

Anyway,.the long wait for official approval was emotional...and a tad fecking costly?

Whatever,..I am all for any type of humane killing trap, that is,..humane?

Take it easy guys, stay safe and good trapping..?

Yeah I've heard similar but apparently rgb is a new out fit now and traps are of a much better quality so may be worth another look

 That's what I came here chasing! ;)

Can't remember the guys name, now. (Can't remember what I did Yesterday!) But, I imported some 2" RBG's, twenty years ago?

They seemed like Death, to rats. But, sadly, only about one rat per fukking trap. Then, the springs were weak as babies. Complete shit.

If someone's now putting decent springs on them? Oh god, yeah! Rats will be Fukked!!! :boogy:

I have some 110 sized ones. Their o.k, but ain't no BMI.

I reckon a new improved version, with thicker metal frame and a good strong spring, might be ideal?

If I was still trapping Mink and suchlike, I would prefer a trap a tad chunkier than the standard 110 size,..such a device will kill them, obviously,..but I just like to see a neater, cleaner dispatch.

This is WHY I requested that BMI made me a sightly larger version of the 110 and we created, the 116...

Basically, it was to satisfy the Ministry of Ag , Defra, etc, who could not get their silly heads around anything, other than, the Fenn Mk4 and Fenn Mk6?

Their insistence on wanting two separate traps was a right fecking pain, but they had to be obeyed, or my company would never have survived..

I am not quite sure how the Circular Body grippers stand legally in the UK...?

I bought some a few years back they killed Rabbits well enough  and their shape helps in some situations but  the the  116  / 110 are very versatile  and can adapt to most situations, a good trap but i think people go a little Coat blind when they see them .

Leaving legalities aside, the round traps ain't got the same power, as BMI, Belisle etc. But it's more that dalm trigger mechanism. One notch, that can be hard set, or keep set, and then, it never seems to sit right. Always seems to lie somewhat in or out. Yea I'm sure you can modify to improve, but you shouldn't have to do that.

On a plus side, yea they fit nicely inside a pipe. A pipe makes an excellent tunnel. So it gets a thumbs up for that aspect.
