There has been many good collies and their derivatives all over the world but for the most part as far as the ACD goes collies were not suited to the the hot conditions here as well as the heavy coats that harboured parasites. It wasn't until the dingo was added that the British dogs blood were able to make their mark here. Many were tried and just as many failed. As far as the Kelpie goes the addition of dingo was a big secret for a long time as collie bitches were used when in season to attract dingos in to a trap ring some actually made it through and mated the bitches pups from these matings were always ment to be destroyed however some were saved and eventually tried, obviously some of them must have gone ok to be bred on from. I must add that there are some very famous collies lines that have been molded to suit Aussie conditions and many of these collies like the Kelpie have been sent all over the world.

As Stevemac said the dingo blood really changed the ability to survive over here for the UK working dogs. The heat will still kill our dogs over here but the humidity is worse. They reckon in North Queensland the average lifespan for a pigdog is three years mainly due to this. That's if the scrub bulls, snakes, crocs, ticks and disease don't get them first, lol.

That may be but we get something much worse over here which kills thousands of dogs every year...they're called dog lovers! You can always spot them by the fact that their dogs are barrel shaped and visit the vet more frequently than they should...due to being grossly overweight.
