Wolfdog91 6,124
So question. I've been looking at getting a factory made rod pod lately. I love my little $5 PVC ones I made but they don't break down to slick and I have few places I can't just drive right up to like I'd like, which makes my PVC ones kinda a pain lol. I was considering just using bank sticks with many a buzz bar but I've had incidents in the past with regular rod holders ( the ones that have the V and can extend out) and I'm just more comfortable with a pod. Well I got bills to pay and a pod from a name brand company like fox or Nash is going to run me like $150-$300+ and for as little as I fish I can't really justify it. But I saw a brand called NGT is selling some very nice looking pods for like 1/4 of what eveyone else is asking. Looking really hard at the Quick fish in perticular There's also what I presume is a Chinese company on Amazon that sells one for a similar price and since I have prime I can get it with free shipping I bought their bit alarm and recover kit and have been very happy with it but I'm not sure about the pod. Seems a little..... flimsy. Anyhow was hoping someone of y'all have tried either or and could say what you thought about either company worth the whole $50 for light use ? Thanks! neil r 1,787
I’ve got an Ngt xpr pod and it’s not too bad , not perfect but good enough for the price . I wanted a compact pod to go with my little Daiwa ext rods and saw it on ebay for £38 and took a chance and it’s as good as the Nash pods I’ve had in the past . The slight negative is the bolts that hold the folding legs on the main body are not the tightest and I think could be lost at some point if you don’t nip them up every now and then but once put together it’s ok . This fellas done a bit of a review of it here 1 Quote Link to post

Don’t know what the banks are like where you fish but personally I always used single sticks.....much more flexible. If I was over there with you I wouldn’t even bother with back rests myself Edited June 3, 2021 by WILF Quote Link to post
tandors 888
Same, I only ever used single bank sticks, but then I only really fished smaller snaggy pools. 2 Quote Link to post

I made some quick ones and was using them the other day and something need about snatched my rod in the water off of one even with a light drag Quote Link to post
Nicepix 5,650
So, you finally seen the disadvantages of those DIY plastic pipe pods? Just because you can doesn't mean that you should Look around the freeads and second hand stores for a Benbo Trekker photographic tripod. Then you need someone who can drill holes and tap screw threads in alloy round bar. You cut a couple of discs about 1/2" thick, same diameter as the tripod arm. Drill a hole dead centre in the flat side and tap a screw thread same as a camera takes. Screw the disc on tight then drill another hole at the top and tap a bankstick thread into it. Same with the other disc. That gives you a stable tripod that will adapt to any bank no matter how uneven it is and will take bank stick adapters to take 2 or 3 rods. I'm on holiday at the moment, but when I get home I'll post some pics. Quote Link to post

Same here pods are handy on wooden platforms when you have no choice but I prefer use sticks too. So they can point where you want. If I need to I use Nash rear rest when locked up..... Nash Butt Lock Rear Rod Grip Rest - Small or Large Available WWW.EBAY.CO.UK The Butt Lock's levers clamp your rod in a vice-like grip and keep your rods more secure than... I much prefer these to a pod Quote Link to post
