If that dressing has got 'feed' in it.. then it's too late mate!

I don't think, or I'm assuming, it hasn't got added fertiliser in it.

Just trace nutrients from organic matter I'd imagine.

I haven't done a lawn reno before Chid... I'm just winging it with a few tips off the web..?

Just looked and I stand corrected that's not a feed ..

Reading this thread made me think. Some time ago I was putting up a marquee for the geezers wedding when onto the lawn came this robot. I’d arrived a bit early as one does and he was getting everything ready. In his garage he also had one of those spiders like on the golf course. He just programmed it and away it went. Fckg great to watch. Every time it came near a border or an obstacle it stopped and re-routed. None of that forking ffs. Jok.

I'm having nightmare this year with coarse weed grasses... mostly Poa i think it is (annual meadow grass).

yhttps://www.rolawn.co.uk/annual-meadow-grass-poa-annua

Got seed heads appearing daily here. The mower doesn't touch them even on the lowest setting as the shoots grow flat against the turf. Had half hour cutting some out again yesterday.. it's a battle i know deep inside i I've already lost!! lol..

Any tips to share folks will be much appreciated!!?

Just on the off chance anyone is interested.. this is a quick, easy and cheap way to green your lawn up.

Been using it for a couple of months now. You can vary how much you dilute it down but I've settled on 0.5 litre and top the sprayer up to it's 5ltr max. Does my 100 sq mtrs bob on.

Using a watering can to apply it is bollocks.. takes way too long. I put a season long weedkiller on too using the sprayer and seems to be working well so far. I binned my previous sprayer is was crap. This Spear and Jackson one works really well...

Word of caution..  don't get the lawn tonic on paving or fences etc.. it can stain!!

In a constant battle with pee patches, though i'd rather have that than everything upright stinking of pee, when i kept dogs rather than bitches.

Between pee patches and a bin licking desert blooded mutt that rips it up doing high speed laps, it's bloody hard work maintaining a lawn...20210708_124431.jpg.f2775547f91021b29919fb483427aff1.jpg20210708_124521.jpg.a3a75e549e5be75d1389363ec4023ed2.jpg

Cracking lawn that mate..  Do you water it regularly?

I've been there with the piss patches... got the t-shirt and all that!

I found a good tip, when patching up piss stains, is to mix the seed with some soil  in a bucket and wait until it's germinated before putting on it on the lawn.

Gives you almost instant grass and you won't have the birds hammering the seed as they would do if you you put the seed directly onto the lawn.

Just keep the soil in the bucket moist and give it a little shake around every day or two.

I wait until the shoots are about 10 mm long before i put it down. Break the surface up with a fork.. whack your soli and sprouted seeds on.. and water it in.

Hopefully... jobs a good un!!

Thanks, i very rarely water my lawn mate. Was told by an old boy greenkeeper that if you water regular, the grass gets too used to it and won't hold if it's dry and you can't water.

That germination idea sounds spot on BR, gonna give that a try ASAP. I usually seed in a soil/compost mix direct on the lawn. Though i do cover with either a pegged down plastic bag or clear plastic take away tray to force it a bit but to grow prior to putting it down makes perfect sense.!

One other thing on this thread is about airation/spiking/hollow tyning. I've always hand forked and top dressed to airate but after visiting my local and new tool hire shop, i can hire a specialist petrol machine for less than twenty quid a week. Sod (no pun intended!) that fork work, i'm gonna get all pro on my lawn next spring ?

Some good practice going on there mate!! And when you get the results like you have makes it all worth while!! Pegging a bag or tub over the seed is a cracking idea.. and a new one to me so thanks for that?

Yes.. same here on the airation front..  I'm mothballing the fork and picking up a machine on hire. I fancy doing a core hollow tine job on the lawn then dressing with something sandy to aid drainage. Probably overseed aswell whilst I'm at it. I might do that it the autumn.

Yer, a bag or tub really forces it up. Just make sure its well watered before you cover it.

I'd like to core hollow tine in Autumn, as it better to do it twice yearly but my lawn gets too much hammer in the winter from the dogs, so it'll probs just be the fork and a bit of a top dressing/sand mix and i'll seed into that mix before applying, with a bit more seed on top for good measure.

Did a mini renno 10 days ago with the aim of having decent looking bit of turn for a bank holl weekend bbq.

Had been away for 2 weeks and when i got back the grass was looking pretty shit to ssy the least.

Did a quick scarify.

Sprayed with the lawn tonic. ( greens up within 2 days!)

And put a granular fertiliser on. Watered it in over a few days.

Quite pleased with the 10 day turnaround.. although i sometimes i wounder why i bother when my mrs and daughters don't pay any attention to it.

I could probably dig it up and they wouldn't notice!!?

Before..

After..

Next job... edge that left hand side!
