I think a beddy greyhound x deerhound greyhound would be a nice cross to try at some point something around 25tts would do me lovely ive only ever seen one beddy deerhound greyhound mix dog it was a foxer great dog wasn’t as large as you would expect from the cross but a handy dog with a good personality I’d like to breed my beddy collie x bitch in about 3yrs time by then she’ll be about 5 I’m thinking something on the lines of a straight greyhound or a deerhound greyhound as my bitch is a cobby thick set type

My cousin used to  keep this type... Dogs were around 25/26 bitches 23/24... He was only into edibles and the odd spin on puss... I try and dig out a few pics I've not spoken or seen him in 10 years.. I had a bitch called Spider from him but she was stolen before I could test her fully. I wanted the same x again but missed out on a pup, so went and tried the wheaton x I have now... I would like to put a deerhound x over her if I ever breed from her... Think they would add an inch or two and lighten them up?I'm only interested in filling a freezer these days tbh...

I had a similar type, DH/grey x Bull/grey, 27 and powerful, just starting to show some worth when he broke a wrist, a lot of strain on the big dogs joints if they're fast types. But if I still had hybrids I'd likely go for something similar. post-2025-063060700%201280834263_thumb.jpeg

Most of the pure deerhounds over here are too soft for the job. I've always wanted a pure working deerhound cross whippet, they were supposed to be better than whippet/stags  and were considered the ultimate rabbit dogs in steep hilly country. Rare as RHS now.

thats a fare comment , ive seen a couple of this type x in the 80s, big 28-30in dogs , couldnt say  how there actually bred but thet had good lump of deerhound and greyhound in the mix, they get few hares in the day, and not bad in the lamp the bloke said i seen them in the day mooching, but he did say that they weren't  really fox dogs, had couple bt not over keen on the sharp end. now that come from the deerhound deff, there not the bravest  of dogs. i worked at a racing kennel for 6 months , and got to know greyhounds quite well, and ok they make nice pets for people, but feck me they make very good fox dogs, when there bloods up, they dont mind bit of pain . i know from reading about the yank stags that bred for yotes  and the Oz stags that killed dingos , both are good type deerhound type xs, but these types have been bred for 100s of years for those quarry, not like our soft temp type dogs. if really wanted deerhound type x today , i try to get one bred back to a pit x grey , put some grit in to the x, or  i try to get a import from the states of proven yote dogs , a dog that deal with anything with have over here  deff

She's a lovely bitch mate?I wanted a pup from this litter... Missed out..  Infairness the man offered me the use of the deerhound dog in the future... Another 2 seasons and I may just take him up on the offer if they both still around... My bitch is a proper trier but lacks that little extra speed... Think the dh would lighten them up ?

I can't stand salukis, brought me nothing but bad luck over the yrs...  my bitch works out half grey, 1/4 bull 1/4 wheaton... IMG_20200603_194006_115.jpg.d1a33900bb2f05fb7ae6d603ed5c23f4.jpgDSC_0979.JPG.ef42321620fdb2f9f053a57fc3d1986c.JPG

That deerhound is a flying machine seen it run a few times, covers the rough ground very well.

I hate salukis couldnt give me one been around plenty of saluki xs aswell. My pal does have a good one that has taken a lot of foxes but id not own it personally, couldn't live with it, gets upset with him and sulks

      **sorry for the double post**
I know I'm probably going to get the piss severely ripped out of me for asking this, but
Has anyone ever successfully trained a deaf lurcher (from two working parents and I own her 4 year old sister who is an awesome little bunny basher.)
Genetically she has potential, but...what do you experts think?
She's not a Double merle by the way, it's extreme piebald/white head. Her vision is perfect

      Evening all,
I'm lucky enough to have first pick from a friends litter. He’s crossed his Saluki dog with his Collie Bull GH bitch. I’ve only seen videos of the litter as he’s based in UK. Few different characters in the litter, some sit reluctant off in the back ground others play among themselves two are incredibly forward one more than the other.

What key things do you look for when picking a litter? I’ve mostly ran mine on rabbits, reds and some others.

      Go stead,
      oshea

Just got this stunning little bitch, nearly 12 months old, Deerhound x Bedie grey.
I used to go out with my dad's Lurchers when I was a kid but I'm a female in my 30's now and struggling to get back into the swing of things.
I'd love to have this girl knocking down bunnies but I just don't know where to start, I've barely seen a rabbit or and other quarry since I moved here.
Any of you experts in my area fancy giving me some advice/practical experience (hunting related only)
