Suppose it depends what your using the dog for don’t it you can’t expect a dog that’s only had a seasons worth of work to be graded as a good regardless of breeding the breeding is a miner some dogs take a bit of time to show there downfalls soon as you pile the the running on them ive alway gone on a year to grow them a year to show them an a couple of years for them to show there worth to you anything after that is minor detail my young bitch I have now that’d be like me trying to breed out of her lol she’s 2 in about a month she’s had a good season I think she’s good but wouldn’t class her as a topper worth putting in to pup I wanna see more before any decision is made if to breed or not

Your right poxon I can’t fault what your saying ??
but what if the young dog was exceptional both parents match dogs with quality breeding behind them his sire was matching winning as a 16 month old dog

I was thinking hopefully apple not fall far from tree lol

A lot in Oz and NZ breed from young, 18 month to one year, stud dogs.

When I've asked about this, the answer is allways the same; high attrition of dogs due to heat, snakes, boars, etc, and breed from young dogs to keep the line going.

We don't have the same problems here, so it's hard to compare.

Cheers.

What about cars farmers and coppers lose them to all above mate

heres a thought ,, how many pups out of a litter  make  real  gooduns , not all ,and it will depend on the guy on the other end of the llead  to show it gear  ,,

Depending on what there bred for don’t it like you say who’s at the end of the lead counts but if it ain’t in the dog it won’t come to expected grade. It’s gotta be bred from the best to the best to give the best chance that’s what a good stock man does he won’t breed out of dirt names alone an expect good dog men to make good dogs for him he provided sound stock to give the best chance to that dog man But I get what your saying tho an what ever what you look at it it’s 50/50 on chance

Goes on over here with the terriers of certain lines, so nothing new.. Heard that some have been known to take 10/15 litters from a bitch before selling them on to the yanks for big coin?

Ive never used a young stud but have used young bitch's with greatr success and no regrets.

Done it once through choice and  the other was accidental.... One litter of terriers the other lurchers... Both small litters with complications for both  bitches... I personally put that down to them being 9 and above ?they all worked to a decent standard tbf..

To be fair the lad is just asking where you would put up your dog if offering it at stud. It’s a fair point really as how often do folk come On here askin for or looking for studs. From what I can see most of what’s said on here is Jackanory anyway, half the thl recommended dogs have done f**k all and the folk giving it big licks about mega worked, mega tested, super duper line bred dogs ..... are mostly talking crap anyway ?

Your obviously talking about me jai but haven’t got the balls to say my name. You a little bit upset that I didn’t use your mates dog. I’m breeding a litter of ratting and mooching dog’s not a fukcing Waterloo cup contender and I will take c greens word about the dog as I haven’t got the time to be out checking over every dog I might want to use.
As for doing nothing I work my dogs pretty much everyday on all sorts of quarry and if you want to put any of your dogs against mine on any type of land or job for any amount of money I’m game. Then we will see who’s dogs have done what.
I do t keep super duper line bred dogs ( unlike you with your razor bred pup ) what I do keep is honest hard working dogs that earn me a lot of money month in month out.
and to save this thread turning into a shit show if you want to slag me off do it in person I’m only 30 minuets drive away from you. Anybody can be a big man on the internet.

I wasn’t talking about you when I said about folk doing nothing. Was just referring to how many folk - yourself included, will give lads on here shit for doing stuff and then do exactly the same thing themselves behind closed doors. As for your dogs earning you a lot of money month in month out, considering you live 30 mins away, there must be a hell of a lot more rabbits where you go than anywhere for miles and miles and miles around here. I’d struggle to find 100 rabbits if I scoured the place. Can’t see many folk paying me much to get rid of theM with my dogs. Anyhow if we all just kept it real we’d all be grand.

I work all across the country not just on my doorstep however I’ve just got back from a site visit 30 miles form my house where there are hundreds of rabbits to go at. and it’s not the same the lad has a pet dog from a lure coursing champion. It’s hardly the same as me using a dog from working lines.
As for keeping it real. Here’s the most real thing. Only say on here what you would say to somebody face to face jai.

He said the sire was a lure coursing champ. How do you know what the lad does with the dog ? And I would say what I’ve said to your face mate. I haven’t slagged you or your dogs off. I just made the point that a lot of Folk in here go on about stuff and reality is quite different.
