toolebox 1,384
I changed farms and decided to look for a couple of rabbits reported by the farmer ,who were sighted around this hellhole gully full of bush & a native climber. toolebox 1,384
A bushed rabbit was pushed out and up into this hole .The ferret was entered & going by his fur slippers after 1/2 hour under ground ,the rabbit was at a stop end, after a dig of 10 minutes I pulled a good sized doe out ,that added to another doe the dogs had caught earlier further down the gully gave me two rabbits however I'm not sure if these are the two the farmer had seen, time will tell, if not I will have to come back at some later date. "Polly" the 3 month old beagle x terrier ,thinks the dead rabbit is interesting & needs a good checking out Edited March 11, 2021 by toolebox 8 Quote Link to post

Aussie Whip 3,822
I once drove 2 1/2 hours to a "rabbit infested" farm and caught the one rabbit on there, does this type of thing annoy you toolebox? Quote Link to post

No ,I note any comments on numbers by the farmer but they lack the skill set required to gage rabbit populations. When I first arrived to work this block back 23 years ago it was common to get up to 30 rabbits in a afternoon when the property was rested for a couple of weeks .This patten lasted for many years ,but over the last couple of years the tally has taken a major dive which is received as good news by landowners ,however there are still rabbits to chase and I don't think given the size of this block (100,000 acres) i will be completely out of rabbits any time soon .I know all the spots well so there's never any surprises, if a paddock is in winter crop for a couple of years there is always a slight build up of numbers and when I find a small pocket I rub my hands together and tell the mutts its game on .I do remember a farmers wife ringing me to inform that the place has" rabbits everywhere" ,to which I replied " I will pack extra ammo then".As expected I only got a small number of rabbits(3) from the gardens around her house .I met her mowing in her drive way and remarked " I must be missing something here I've only managed 3 " to which she said " oh no youre done very well as I only saw 2 " ha ha ha ha ffs I get this ALOT ! Aussie Whip 3,822
That would be a top property to hunt on, 100 000 acres, probably keep me going forever, lol. Quote Link to post

Guss33 375
Yep nothing like a call and you go and get one or two rabbits as when some people say they have rabbits hopping around the garden. City slickers no idea they think two or three rabbits are a major problem. Quote Link to post

Cheers I do ,& i will dig them out .I have about 6 of this cross, different ages ,different litters ,all from a pair of dogs that are first cross beagle x terrier (foxy) which is a type of JR. Its a good cross for bushing in very heavy cover ,great nose, small and fast with the never give up outlook of the beagle ,the terrier adds more catch . 1 Quote Link to post
