Rabbit Pie ! And, for the purists, made with shortcrust pastry, NOT puff pastry ! ? ! Cheers.

Treat off my dad tonight, he's a friend on the fresh fish stall up town... Scallops and lemon sole fillets...

Family get together at ours, so a bit of a spread.. 13 hour cooked brisket, slow cooked pork shoulder.. Home made coleslaw, stuffing, roasties... and a 2 day hangover! Lol

Not had tinned potatoes for years. I'll pick a tin up tomorrow. I know they are wank but sort of nostalgic wank ??

I purposely said Bachelor's cos they really are good.

Tinned pots are quick and handy tbh but quality can be varied, tried most of the brand's out there, these really are decent ?

Cheers, D.

You know what, I'm going to sound like a right old git but, folk nowadays haven't got a clue - I reckon so much is being lost.

My local butcher does sell beef dripping but he has to filter out the brown bits before it goes in the tubs, otherwise people won't buy it.

He also has to trim the skin off pork - I get a bit for free whenever I shop in there. He bins loads of it because his customers have either never heard of or never tried crackling

Fckn same over here

murder trying to find skin on the pork

they ain’t geared upto get rid of the hair so the butchers just skin the hog

shameful

Have been, JJ. I had teeth then.

I was going to offer to give you a shout next time I've been to the butchers.

This is crackling done with salt and maple syrup - I like to leave a bit of fat on it.

It is crunchy but, not a teeth breaker

I just think that we have a generation of people that have been taught to turn their nose up at food that isn't sanitised and packaged.

........ you should see some of the reactions from people at work when I talk about things like liver, bacon and onions or, when you tell them haggis has lung in it.

Yet they've all liked crackling, rabbit pasties and squirrel pie when I've taken some in.

......... Small wins I suppose

walking back into the estate and through the streets to home after exercising the dog on a lovely still and calm night I was struck by the smells coming from the open steamed up windows from people's tea/dinner being cooked. Lovely smells. Garlic, herbs and exotic spices. Not many "non-indigenous" or ethnic minorities live around here. Shows how much people's tastes have changed. Friday used to be fish n chips. Not complaining, just wish somebody would invite me in for tea.
