It’s from working stock ... the sire came off a cattle farm in Australia and the dam was bred here from a dog that came from a working farm in Australia ... he paid £2000 for it.

Out of interest ...... why?

There’s been a massive surge in folk keeping ACD, Kelpies and Huntaways ..... and apart from a very small number of things (heat tolerance for example, or voice in a hunt away), I can’t see why anyone would bother, other than fashion or curiosity (which is fair enough).

Dad was watching some farming /farmers market program on tv an a Scottish woman had a pack of dogs including one huntaway And then went for a beach walk and it still kept barking it’s tits off , that would annoyed the hell out of me ?

But out if interest how Is the border collie evolving ?
lot of the larger sturdy sort I see are non workers owned by pensioner types an the dogs themselves are old age .
is the trials making people prefer small  faster type of collie?

People had one in the country town I used to live in. It attacked my daughter walking her very large red nose pitbull protection dog. She dragged her dog off but the huntaway came into her yard later that day and met it's end. I didn't see it as very bright animal.

The reason i got one was through a bit of curiosity as i'd only heard good things said about them and because i had only heard good things about them:thumbs:. I lost mine when she was just 11 months old but was ticking boxes like she was a wise old dog,but she bushed mooched, ferreted, lamped a plenty and had day timed everything edible up to roe,she was very protective but not overly and if she saw someone and she always saw or heard them before i ever did she'd come and sit on my foot but a pat on her head and a mellow word she was fine and totaly under control :victory:. Why would i bother again????, reread what i just wrote :laugh:and chances are i'd know well of the parents and that acd x x collie x  litter both the parents were and still are doing all asked of them with honours and i'm kicking myself even harder now iv'e seen some pics and feed back of the owners....I do wish them many good years with there mitts as there cracking looking things for sure..:clapper:

I was talking to a sheep farmer a good few yrs ago his land backed on to we’re I worked when I was in the poultry trade he had a couple of border collies an a huntaway he knew I was in to the Lurchers his huntaway was the first time id seen one in the flesh it looked a right specimen tbh very pleasing on the eye first thing I said bet that would make some nice Lurchers he said watch it work an your say different lol watched it work it worked well I thought it seemed very responsive to watch but Jesus they ain’t half vocal! When he’d finished working the dogs he said see what I mean you wouldn’t want that in a hunting dog especially if you worked the lamp he said you’d be better off with a worked border collie I’m guessing he’d been around hunting dogs abit just by how he was talking or may even kept em himself who knows but insisted a border was a better dog I asked why have you got a huntaway then he said don’t know really I just fancied trying something different from the norm a little change now an again ain’t a bad thing

A couple of reasons. He always wanted one after spending a year in Australia working on cattle farms. He wanted a guard dog for the house but not something big and he wanted a guard for his truck as he is also a tree fellar and has had chainsaws nicked out of his truck whilst working in the middle of nowhere.
