I’m interested in cockers and crosses too. A popular cross is with a beagle. Has anyone had one of these, and I’m assuming the beagle in the mix would make for a better dog for bushing with the lurchers as it would follow a trail a bit better, and probably wouldn’t be as hectic, maybe a bit more steady. But what would they be like for taking bush beating on a shoot? Would the beagle blood make them unsuitable for this. The reason I ask, is that most of my work would be bushing for the lurchers, but maybe 2 or 3 days bush beating throughout the season.

Would a cocker x terrier not be better for bussing to the lurches as they won't go as far ??

You want them pretty hectic and small if your bushing blackberries and the like. I have a Parson for this, he has much more stamina than the other Russells I've owned. I'd get a pure cocker if I was bushing to guns.

My first dog my grandfather found me was a cocker. He trained gun dogs (black labs) but took a like to her which was the first being she was spaniel. She was the dog I learnt everything from. Home life she chilled out with the ducks out back but on shoots she was a class dog, picked up all day on large shoots. Couldn't fault my cocker... She is now 16 and lives at my mums house. I wouldn't have a bad work about cocker's depending what your looking for.
