Lurcher games a short straws game mate there’s a 50/50 chance what ever way you buy you ending up with dirt or a good dog there not be a que of people wanting to take you out just so you can see there dogs work so you can make your mind up if there for you or not they don’t know you from the next man people just breed for there selfs an either gift or sell surplus off to anyone who’s wanting a work bred pup from them it’ll be a case of pay your money take your chances. Tbh don’t matter we’re you look even off here there’s still peddlers same as fb an all the pets for sale sights

Yeah this was point, knew it would be a game of chance and like I said no pedigree means you have no idea what your buying really. But in the same respect just because a dogs got a decent pedigree doesnt mean its going to be anything like the parents or grandparents, I know of spaniels that come from ftch pedigrees but won't pick up birds so always a chance I guess. Not expecting for people to just say come along and have a watch by any means but the people selling dogs after 5 minutes of owning them make me very cautious

All id do is figure out what cross takes my fancy  an how much I’m looking to spend then phone any one with a litter for sale of the desired cross id ask loads of questions about the litter id even write questions down I wanted to ask over the phone to see if my mind was set an all boxes were ticked then ask for a viewing you can always gauge if there bull shitters or not an no ones forcing you to part with your cash or saying because you gone to look at a litter you gotta have one your own mind will be set if you see a well reared litter if there good uns or not by what your told an see on viewing I’m sure when your there there show you some pictures of days hunting

I had looked at beddlington whippets and do like the idea of 1, like you say being short legged suggest they reach full speed quicker over short distance, have looked at whippets but even no pedigree ones are far out of my budget in the current climate if im honest

I think that's what I'm going to be doing, literally contacting everyone with an advert of a cross I like the idea of and go from there and hope for the best.

Good luck mate A question worth asking with rabbiter dogs is age of parents with rabbits in decline unless from up north of the uk getting any thing out of youngish parents unless there more than rabbit dogs is a risk to if there actually any good or not. Another thing to watch out for is if you go to view a litter an they own a load of Lurchers an they tell you there all good workers not many men/women can find enough to keep more than a couple of dogs in regular work just watch out for scammers an bull shitters

Originally it was going to be kept outside in kennel and they didn't like that idea either, but because my spaniels are in the house and always have been the Mrs wont let me put lurcher outside, which tbh more than happy to have it in the house. Know what you mean though, guess there are too many unknowns with a rescue for them to allow that risk

I love whippets and their crosses but if you do a lot of lamping I'd be going for a slightly bigger built dog than a pure whippet.

Yeah I think I would prefer something a bit bigger tbh, and I think I wouldnt be happy unless it had some collie in it

That is my ten year old geriatric collie with a bad shoulder she caught that last night running by the quad in my head torch beam after a 12 hour shift grafting. Totally see why folk love collie bred dogs for rabbiting.
