Every day's a school day, never seen or heard of them interesting find Arry.

Nor had I Joe. Odd little f****r some thing related to a jelly fish that floats on the surface eats plankton by stinging its prey.

Aren't they Portuguese man of war?  Jellyfish?  Don't they have long stinging tentacles. ?  They are really poisonous aren't they.?  They can give a bad sting and can even kill.!!   If you don't know what they are don't touch them. It looks as if any long stingy tentacles have fallen off and their dead.  But beware.

Just read this in that link..

Detached tentacles and dead specimens (including those that wash up on shore) can sting just as painfully as the live organism in the water, and may remain potent for hours or even days after the death of the organism or the detachment of the tentacle.[26]

Stings usually cause severe pain to humans, leaving whip-like, red welts on the skin that normally last two or three days after the initial sting, though the pain should subside after about 1 to 3 hours (depending on the biology of the person stung). However, the venom can travel to the lymph nodes and may cause symptoms that mimic an allergic reaction, including swelling of the larynx, airway blockage, cardiac distress, and an inability to breathe

No mate. they are  "by - the - wind - sailors" harmless to humans. They feed on plankton by stinging though. GM put some info on them. I have seen Portuguese man of war many times. But never seen these before and I've been sea fishing for 50 years and more and worked on fishing boats. Strange things.
