We are up North East Scotland so looking for something with a bit more jacket and a bit more hardy for forestry sites than a straight whippet although for the actual rabbiting it would be ideal.

Appreciate that it’s always going to be a compromise but being new to lurchers I’m just trying to get some thought together. Ask me about Gundogs and I’d be happy to go my own way!

That would do the job,but any trained lurcher x will do you.my bullxwhip will ferret,Mark the set,hold in the net,lamp,track,retrieve off water,when we are beating  he stays close but if a rabbit pops up close hes after it.retrieves pheasant duck etc .any one got a whippet or whippet x gundog bitch to make some useable pups.not interested in money,rather for our own use.

@Dan Newcombe

Something like poxon's bitch, but with a tad more whippet in, would be ideal. Especially as you want it more for rabbits.

Right size, tidy jacket, still pretty easily trained, and should be very quick and nimble, ideal.

But as been mentioned, finding such a litter these days isn't as easy as it used to be.

I have a work bred collie pup, 7 months old now and steady as an be, been marking and working with nets and ferrets for 3 months, took to it like a duck to water, just work her solo, just I like to do. I’ve had beddy whippet types the last few years but retired my old bitch and just wanted a biddable ferreting dog so I went back to a collie, had collie Bitch years ago was a great ferreting dog.
