Mounts - Shims.

Hi all,

Put my Hawke mounts on my HW95, and they are a gnats cock too short, the x50 objectice end is just touching the gun!

 

Can I shim the mounts?, as if I go the next size up I will have to wind the elevation right down I would imagine.

Perhaps best getting the right mounts that allow the ob to fit mate. Just to save the faff. 

Not sure what you mean by wind the elevation right down... as in on the turret?

Change the mounts as they are either right or wrong and a new set of mounts is not crazy money or at least doesn't have to be and totally worth the effort.

Bought some new Hawke mounts, mounted the scope yesterday, will try and zero the rifle today.

Is it worth putting a good few pellets through the new gun before finally zeroing?

Not needed unless you are changing pellets or the gun is new then a clean would be worthwhile followed but some pellets through to help lead it up, other than that, I would just go ahead and zero the gun.

Yes, it’s a new gun and I have cleaned the barrel, am shooting AAField 4.52.

If you have not had any shots through, perhaps worth firing 30 - 50 shots but to be honest I fired about a dozen shots with my 99 before setting zero and it stayed there so your call really.
