Know exactly where you re coming from . I ve had a chap take a phone call years back as a fox was being squeaked . Sitting in my house for an hour before we go having a cuppa and a chat then pulling up at the permission to be told they have to get changed and slam every door getting stuff out the motor. Then constantly shouting at the dog for pulling on the lead. Just me and my lad now , better off on ur own mate.

Thats given me a good idea cheers, ive started my whippet lamping after been ferreting twice, shes had her nose down both times ive walked a field because of sniffing burrows and around them ,shes  not seen a rabbit run untill its flat out and not worth running for a pup , next night when its windy enough i will carry her up to a squater and try and get it to run before i let her down if shes seen it, never had to start a dog like that before but it might speed it up for her first catch

Hold her head up mate. Tighten up the slip so you’re lifting her head, lamp on the squatter, walk up on it, little his to get her looking, thinking something is going on. Soon as that rabbit moves she will see it and if it gets up too early just hold on to her and lamp it running, she will be doing cartwheels . Soon enough one will clamp till you’re close enough and when it gets up let her go and watch, she will sharp learn that the big white circle is where to look!

Ps if ray was literally dropping buck on rabbits They would be flat as a pancake and hey, he’s got a bad back don’t you know ?

I don't lamp anymore but went a couple of times on my own and it got a bit boring especially when one of the dogs couldn't catch a cold

Like to stand where the rabbit wants to be and wait untill the pup has seen it, and slip it out into the open. Think if you walk up to squatters you could just end up lighting up a tail chase to home..

I see few terrier xs open up ,nothing todo with way they brought on it's just the terrier in them ,

Dogs yap for a few reasons -

Over matched when young 

Frustrated / unfit

Excited (the kind that give couple yaps on first slip of the night)
 

Because they are noisy yappy ba***rds

It sounds like the dog needs a few easy rabbits and end the night on a kill too I've seen it loads of times dogs lapping a field cos they're wound up and want a kill

His name isn't whin is it ? as i had the same sort of night with such a plonker one time but he went one step further and slipped his dog in on a run then tried taking the glory when it was killed..

A lad came out lamping 1 night.slipped his dog on a rabbit the dog missed it then done a big lap while the owner was shouting at the dog to come back.

30 mins later.there was a rabbit about 40yds away we said you can have that 1 

He started to run as fast as he could towards the rabbit keeping the dog on the slip and trying to keep the beam on the rabbit after 20yds and running as fast as he could he tripped.landed straight on his face legs up in the air I think he was trying to catch the rabbit by hand

I caught a rabbit one night my self as young fella. Was out lamping with couple valley lads. Crossing wet field with long grass and put light on to see and there was a rabbit legging so I set off and got it off track and nailed it. I even retrieved it too. Give it a crunch I was bit hard mouthed  Was quite funny. Great days on the perms at 9 and off piste after midnight. Would love to go back
