These were apparantley ferrets and lamped, not shot. If I had a permission where I got 240 rabbits I wouldn't need to tell anyone, my closest hunting mates would be there anyway. I also know if I had a perm where I got 240 I would be at it hard untill I was getting 10s/20s so the land owner saw a dramatic decrease yet still keeping some sport on. Did it say which part of country they took 240 ? If Yorkshire Dale's not too hard to achieve. I remember in the 90s in the Scottish Borders lamping , shot 213 in a few hours then stopped as got boring , if stayed out all night could have been 500 + but didnt want that many as couldn't shift them. The one 8,382
I got a estate where the last guy didn't fill in his holes he dug and a highland cow stood in it and broke its leg and got PTS the guy used to come out for a couple of hours on a sunday and go home . The farmer drove me round and he said you wont ferret that you wont ferret there , When i asked why no he said the old guy said its too deep LOL i said i will be up the morning start here and finish up near your house after he saw me there and ferreting away i got run of the whole place , We took over 3000 off four fields second year after we ferreted he followed after us with a manitkou ? with a wire bucket and filled in any burrows he could the counts dropped from 40/50s to 20s i can still get a good day there as there rough spot he couldn't do And every year i pick up wee nets and a odd ferret in the burrows where boys have seen the rabbits and thought here we go but you need big nets to cover the sandy burrows as they cave in when the rabbits are digging them and look like fox dens and need a good few ferrets to work big deep sandy burrows there
tatsblisters 7,774
A mate just told me about a vid on youtube took a few years back with a couple of lads on it i know think they ended up with 175 on it though their was half a dozen of them .These big bag boys who go in large numbers seem some how to defeat the object to me if the end product seems to have a few bob at the end of the outings. micky 3,325
I don't think bagging a large bag olf Rabbits this time of the year is a good idea , for one they go off very quickly or become Fly blown , there is no market for them + you are killing Milky and pregnant Does + youngsters and to top it all it can be hard work . In my time i have had some very good bags [for the Midlands ] but the real memories are the days when i had two with one shot , 13 out of a stop end , 3 balled up together in a long net , i have had lot of little things like that as will any one else who has put 70 odd years into the game and i would not swap any of them for 241 Summer Rabbits
