Advice required

Hi guys new to this and interested in ferreting... I currently fly a harris and would love to work a ferret under him... First i Would like a season or 2 with a ferret... Could I please have any advice needed to begin.

Definitely a good idea to do some ferreting without the Harris for your first couple of outings but you shouldn’t have to wait too long to start working them together. A couple of outings with just ferret and a couple of purse nets will get you a feel for things. Most important element will be to site your ferret hutch where the Harris can see them all day and while he’s out weathering. The constant exposure will make him happy with them and not inclined to go for them, just like with chickens if you keep them too.

My mate only used albino ferrets so they could be distinguished more easily from the rabbits

Get a lurcher instead of the hawk as there easier to train not to kill the ferret

You fly the bird, someone else takes care of the ferrets until you suss the craic and the bird knows the score. Harris hawks are clever, soon click that the ferret sends rabbits out of holes

Ha ha im just recalling a incident with clarrissa and jonny (remember them ) lol on eastate  a mate was keeper the bird was more intrested in killing the ferret than than rabbits

Ya pal as said you work the bird ,let someone else handle ferrets,at least till both you and bird are  confident  . good luck
