Softening old leather

Recommended Posts

I found an old leather waistcoat that I had many years ago when I was clearing out the garage, I don’t want to chuck it as it was quite expensive

it’s gone a bit hard but hasn’t cracked yet

I’ve read that castor oil is quite good to soften it but just wondering if anyone has any other advice ?

cheers

I would use some saddle soap . My Mrs and kids had horses and there was always some knocking about . I’ve found it’s good for softening dried out leather .
I use it on game bag straps and gun slips and any leather which starts to crack . ATB

I watch quite a few car restoration programs, and a product called elephant wax seems to have some amazing properties for bringing old leather back to life, you warm it in your hands the work it into the leather ? you can get it on amazon ?
